Chucky Vs Michael?

Dourif on his way to Haddonfield

This is likely to have the fanboys reaching for the nearest cleaning wipe.

Brad Dourif, best known as the man behind the iniquitous snicker of ‘Chucky’ in the “Child’s Play” series, has joined the cast of Rob Zombie’s “Halloween” remake.

In a round about way that means Chucky will be taking on Michael Myers, a fellow horror icon, for the first time on film. Or at least, we get giddy with excitement thinking in those terms. Considering two different studios own the rights to Chucky and Michael, respectively, this is as close as we’re ever going to get as far as a clash of those horror icons goes.

Naturally, Dourif’s not playing the redheaded stepchild of Satan, but Sheriff Brackett, in the soon-to-be-filming (yep, apparently the rumours were false – the film hasn’t been delayed at all) redo. That role was originally played by Charles Cyphers in the John Carpenter-directed original.

Rob Zombie is really digging through the archives in search of some of the classic horror faces here, isn’t he? In addition to Dourif, the film also features genre favourites Dee Wallace Stone (“Cujo”), Danny Trejo (“The Devil’s Rejects”), Danielle Harris (“Halloween 4”) and Adrienne Barbeau (“Creep Show”).

The lead player – cast as heroine Laurie Strode; a role made famous by Jamie Lee Curtis – has yet to be announced, but rumour has it that Zombie could be eyeing either Agnes Bruckner or the oft-rumoured Lindy Booth (“Cry Wolf”).
