Clint’s Bits – 22/12/09

– A number of folks, mainly the trades, are reporting that Brittany Murphy will appear in the upcoming “The Expendables”. As I reported earlier this year, Murphy didn’t end up doing the movie.  The role she was supposed to play – that of Mickey Rourke’s on-screen girlfriend – was written out. So, unfortunately we’ve probably seen the last of Murphy on the big screen.

– Due to it’s lackluster performance in the states, Neveldine & Taylor’s “Gamer” starring Gerard Butler will be released direct to DVD in Australia. The film (the second Neveldine & Taylor release this year – the other being “Crank : High-Voltage” – to bypass theaters downunder) will hit stores in February. Other titles going direct-to-DVD in Australia in early 2010 include “Outlander” starring Jim Caviezel, “Street-Fighter : The Legend of Chun Li”, “Shrink” starring Kevin Spacey, and “Goal III : Taking on the World”.

The Hollywood Reporter says, “The Los Angeles County coroner’s office said it has completed an autopsy of Brittany Murphy but will defer releasing a cause of death until after toxicology tests are complete”. TMZ adds that, “One issue the Coroner is interested in — what prescription drugs were in Brittany Murphy’s system”.

– Bryan Singer talks in-depth about his plans for the “X-Men : First Class” movie with Heat Vision (and offers a small update on the “Battlestar Galactica” movie – which, personally, I kinda hope doesn’t come to fruition).

– A second teaser poster for Christopher Nolan’s “Inception” is online, as is the first teaser poster for the upcoming Tom Cruise/Cameron Diaz flick “Knight and Day”.

Yahoo! Movies has premiered the teaser trailer for “Marmaduke”, the 20th Century Fox comedy featuring the voices of Emma Stone, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Ron Perlman and Judy Greer.

– Former “24” rogue Mia Kirshner has inked a deal to join the cast of “The Vampire Diaries” on a recurring basis (The Ausiello Files).

– “Michael Jackson’s This is It” will hit DVD and Blu-Ray in Australia on March 3rd (EzyDVD).

ThePlaylist have landed some [tiny] new pics from “Get Him to the Greek”, “The Adjustment Bureau”, “Repo Men”, “Eagle of the Ninth”, “Step Up 3D”, “Your Highness”, “Charlie St. Cloud”, and “Despicable Me”.

– “We got everything on screen. There is not one deleted scene for the DVD. I just try to be efficient, and I’m relatively experienced in knowing what will work and what won’t”, “Sherlock Holmes” director Guy Ritchie tells IESB when asked what deleted scenes we’d be seeing on the DVD.

– Producer Brad Fuller addresses those “Elm Street” re-shoots, as well as offers on an update on the sequel to “Friday the 13th”, at his Official Blog.

– Kevin Bacon will play the villain in James ‘Dawn of the Dead’ Gunn’s next flick, “Super” (Screen Daily)

– Due to her blossoming film career (she’s currently filming the remake of “Red Dawn”), Adrianne Palicki (‘Tyra’) wasn’t able to fit in an appearance in this latest series of “Friday Night Lights” (Ask Ausiello).

– Lindsay Pulsipher (“The Beast”) has been tapped to play the recurring role of Crystal on “True Blood” (The Ausiello Files).

– As recently rumoured, Captain EO – starring the late Michael Jackson – is officially returning to Disneyland (The DisneyParks Blog).

– The red-band trailer for “Kick-Ass”, featuring Chloe Moretz as Hit-Girl, is now online

– Ashley Tisdale, Bill Goldberg, and Devon Werkheiser are in talks to star in ”Holly, Jingles and Clyde 3D”, a family film about two elves who help a family save their Christmas Tree farm.

– “Clash of the Titans” is undergoing reshoots; it may also be turned into 3-D (The Envelope).

– Zachary Levi, currently out stumping “Alvin and the Chipmunks : The Squeakuel”, tells About.com a little about – his next family offering – the forthcoming “Rapunzel”.
