– The poster for “A Nightmare on Elm Street” is up at IGN Movies, whilst Bloody Disgusting has the new “Saw 6” one-sheet. And last but not least, Slashfilm has the poster for the bloody magnificent “Bronson”.
– IGN has premiered the trailer for “Whiteout” (which has seemingly been in post-production longer than I’ve been out of diapers!) starring Kate Beckinsale. I recall many years ago my old friend Reese Witherspoon was attached to the project – and was quite excited at one stage too; funnily enough, her interest waned around the time Joel Silver became involved. Just saying…
– There’s movement on a “300” sequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Risky Business Blog.
– A new still from Sony’s “District 9” (which, by the way, we will be holding a special screening of soon – – more details shortly) is up at USA Today.
– The “Tron” sequel will be a stand-alone film that you don’t need to have seen the original film to enjoy. And if you’re in San Diego, you’re likely to be treated to some great “Tron 2” stuff today! (MTV)
– Calico Ghost Town is headed for the bigscreen. Allentown Prods., headed by documentary filmmaker James Moll, has acquired feature rights to Knott’s Berry Farm’s Calico Ghost Town and all the rides and original characters created for the theme park. (Variety)
– Veteran visual effects supervisor Matthew Gratzner is attached to make his directorial debut on “UFO,” the feature adaptation of the ’70s TV series. Never saw the show. (Variety)
– Kaare Andrews has signed on to direct the action film “The Hunted,” based on his original screenplay.
“The Hunted” is the story of an assassin in his 20s who is hired to kill a young girl but refuses to complete the contract.(The Hollywood Reporter)
– Joely Richardson will play Henry’s (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) last wife during “The Tudors”‘ fourth and final season, an insider tells Michael Ausiello. No word yet on whether she’ll get her kit off or not.
– Bloody Disgusting has the first high-res look at Darren Lynn Bousman’s ”Abattoir”, a new Comic franchise that’s slated for release next year.
– “Underworld” helmer Len Wiseman has signed to develop and direct a film adaptation of the graphic novel “Shrapnel” for Radical Pictures. The comic-book describes a sci-fi future where humans have colonized the solar system and formed a Solar Alliance to govern the planets. The story focuses on Venus, the last rebellious holdout, and a self-exiled former Marine who teaches the colonists how to fight back. (The Hollywood Reporter)
– “Avatar” merchandise has arrived at Comic Con! (MTV)
– Sony Pictures is finalizing a deal to acquire concert rehearsal footage from Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” tour from AEG Entertainment, is eyeing an Oct. 30 release date for the film. The opening bid for the performance footage started at $50 million, and Sony is said to be ponying up close to $60 million for the 80 hours filmed. (Variety)
– Brooke D’Orsay (“Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle”) has been cast as a new regular on the CBS sophomore comedy “Gary Unmarried”, starring Jay Mohr. (The Hollywood Reporter)
– Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley will likely not be back for “Pirates of the Caribbean 4” due to budget cuts. The film, which Johnny Depp will reprise his iconic Captain Jack Sparrow for, has slowed while Disney hunts for a director. (The Hollywood Reporter)
– Zachary Gordon has nabbed the title role in “Diary of a Wimpy Kid,” Fox 2000’s adaptation of Jeff Kinney’s best-selling illustrated novels. Chloe Moretz is in negotiations for the female lead. Thor Freudenthal is directing, and Nina Jacobson is producing via her Color Force banner along with Brad Simpson. “Wimpy Kid” follows the travails of smart-aleck middle-school student Greg Heffley (Gordon) during the course of an academic year. Moretz will play an intense student with a wry sense of humor who dresses in all black. Rachel Harris (“The Hangover”) has been cast as Gordon’s mother. (The Hollywood Reporter)

Film Recommendation of the Day
On Golden Pond (1981) – If you’ve never seen this beautiful film, directed by Mark Rydell and written by Ernest Thompson (based on his own play), then you really don’t deserve to be reading about film… and hand in your membership card to the film-buff society, if you’re still trying to pass off as one. This is a classic – one of those classics they really should start screening in School English or Drama class… if they aren’t already!? (It’s been about twenty-years since I’ve been at school, so I don’t know). Katharine Hepburn and Henry Fonda attracted a significant amount of interest to the film when it was released in 1981, and adding Jane Fonda – Henry’s real-life daughter – evoked a near-stampede. If you haven’t seen it for a while, it’s time to revisit it! Such a lovely film.
