Clint’s Bits – June 12, 2009

– Principal photography is underway on the new mob show, “Just Business” A new mob series. The show centers around a newly promoted soldier in a small mob, Vinnie Caparzo. Justin Rister, Chris Serrone (“Goodfellas”), Al Corrado (TVs “Leverage”) and Andrew Garretson (“Burning Plain”) are among the cast. The show is currently underway, filming in Portland, Oregon, where the series takes place. Photos and updates can be seen and read here.

– James Russo (“Beverly Hills Cop”) and Tracy Middendorf (“Wes Craven’s New Nightmare”) are among the cast of “Boy Wonder”, a new thriller set to begin lensing Monday in New York. (The Hollywood Reporter)

– The cast of the smash hit comedy “The Hangover” (which I finally saw last night, loved it; caught it as one-half a double feature with “Adventureland” – also grand!) talk to MTV about the already-greenlit sequel.

– Despite interest from TBS to continue the canceled NBC series “My Name is Earl” with new episodes, producing studio 20th Century Fox TV and creator/executive producer Greg Garcia have opted not to move forward, putting an end to the offbeat comedy after four seasons. (The Hollywood Reporter)

– According to Michael Ausiello, Eric Roberts (“The Expendables”, TVs “Heroes”) has joined Starz’ “Crash” series. ”He’s set to play Seth, a billionaire entrepreneur who plans to give L.A. the one thing keeping it from becoming a real city: a professional football team. Crash’s second season premieres Sept. 18”, says Mikey.

– Actor Johnny Palermo, who appeared in more than 30 television shows in his brief career, including “Everybody Hates Chris”, died June 8 in an early morning car accident in North Hollywood. He was 27. (The Hollywood Reporter)

– “Doubt” star Viola Davis has joined the cast of “The United States of Tara”. She will play Lynda, an unconventional artist who plays a significant role in the lives of Tara (Collette) and her daughter Kate (Brie Larson). (The Hollywood Reporter)

– Uber-dud “Dragonball Evolution” is set to – really!? – spawn a sequel. Star James Marsters revealed the news in an interview with Cinema Blend.

– She may have been cut from “The Expendables”, but all is not lost for Brittany Murphy! The “Sin City” actress has been tapped for a lead role in “Something Wicked,” a psychological thriller from producer-turned-director Darin Scott. (The Hollywood Reporter)

– There’s an interesting interview with “Terminator” star Linda Hamilton up at Total Film.

– Funny lady Amy Poehler (“Baby Mama”) is attached to star in the film “Lunch Lady,” based on the children’s graphic novel of the same name. The “Lady” series centers on centers on a mild-mannered school cafeteria server who secretly dishes out helpings of justice as she and her assistant investigate wrongdoings. (The Hollywood Reporter)

– Trouble for “G.I Joe”? There’s a rumour floating around that director Stephen Sommers has been locked out of the editing room. Apparently the news started via a post at producer Don Murphy’s message board – a post which has since conveniently been removed. Latino Review has more…

– Guillermo del Toro confirmed on Simon Mayo’s BBC radio show this week that Hugo Weaving will reprise his role as Elrond (from the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy) for “The Hobbit”.

– “Enchanted” director Kevin Lima will direct a remake of “The Incredible Mr. Limpet,” a story about a man who turns into a talking fish. Don Knotts starred in the studio’s 1964 original, which centered on the title character, an otherwise bland sort who after his transformation becomes a World War II hero when he helps spot and thwart enemy warships for the Allies. – Joss Whedon tells EW that the producers of the new “Buffy, the Vampire Slayer” film have reached out to his agent, but he still doesn’t want anything to do with the train-wreck. “I think that’s something better left untouched by me. So, I wish them luck”, he tells the website.
