Clint’s Bits – June 2nd, 2009

– Alyssa Milano (TVs “Charmed”) has signed on to star in and produce “My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend,” a romantic comedy in which she plays a woman with a relationship dilemma. Beau Bridges, Michael ‘The original Jimmy Olsen on Lois & Clark’ Landes, Christopher Gorham and Carol Kane (“License to Drive” baby!) will co-star. (The Hollywood Reporter)

– Former “Terminator” resistance leader Brian Austin Green (Actually liked him on that show) looks set to become a regular on The CW’s “One Tree Hill”, while Famke Janssen is rumoured to be reprising her role of gender-bending sociopath Ava Moore for the seventh and final season of “Nip/Tuck”. Both stories at The Ausiello Files.

Slashfilm has the first look at Sam Worthington in the upcoming “Clash of the Titans” remake.

– Gore Verbinski may not direct “Bioshock” after all. The filmmaker tells The Los Angeles Times, “The bottom line is it has to shoot out of the States for budget reasons and my schedule may be prohibitive”. Oh and don’t put much stock into those Twitter statements by Wentworth Miller (TVs “Prison Break”) suggesting he was set to star in the movie – his account was canceled this week due to ‘strange activity’ (usually that’s code for ‘Someone was posing as a celebrity’).

– Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson, Chris Klein, Adam Rodriguez and Richard T. Jones will star in the police corruption drama “Caught in the Crossfire”. The Brian Miller written/directed pic concerns two homicide detectives who find themselves caught in the crossfire of a gang-related homicide and a group of dirty cops. Jackson plays a gang-banger who becomes a reluctant informant. (Variety)

– “Moon” helmer Duncan Jones will next lens “Escape from the Deep.” The project is an adaptation of Alex Kershaw’s book about the real-life WW2 story of the U.S. Navy submarine USS Tang, which was hit by one of its own torpedoes and sunk to the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. The crew members then had to escape from their iron coffin while enemy depth charges were being dropped from above and swim 180 feet to the surface. (Variety)

– Will Ferrell tells IESB that the planned meeting he was supposed to have this week with the “Anchorman” cast to discuss a potential sequel has been canceled. It’s just too hard to get everyone together.

– “Terminator Salvation” producers Victor Kubicek and Derek Anderson have acquired the pic rights to journalist Daniel Estulin’s book “The True Story of the Bilderberg Group.” The book details the exploits of the ultra-exclusive, invitation-only group of the world’s most powerful movers and shakers who meet once a year to discuss world events. (Variety)

– Lucy Punch has replaced Nicole Kidman in Woody Allen’s next untitled film. Sources said Punch will play a high-priced call girl similar to Ashley Dupre, who was at the center of the scandal that brought down New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer.(Variety)

– Kevin Pollak (“The Whole Nine Yards”) has revealed on Twitter that he’s joined the cast of the new Kevin Smith action/comedy “A Couple of Dicks”. The project reunites Pollak with “Nine Yards” and “Ten Yards” co-star Bruce Willis.

– Producer Ed Solomon tells SciFiWire that Anne Hathaway will be playing Tobey Maguire’s love interest in “Tokyo Sucker Punch”. So Spidey wears Prada!?

– Writers Ben Karlin and Stu Zicherman have been hired to translate a 9-year-old boy’s musings on seduction. Fox picked up film rights in December to “How to Talk to Girls,” a self-help book written by fourth-grader Alex Greven. Karlin and Zicherman, who paired up to write the spec “A.C.O.D. (Adult Children of Divorce),” will adapt a feature screenplay from Greven’s extensive experience on the playa-ground. (The Hollywood Reporter)

– Bryan Singer says he’d fancy another shot at “X-Men” – whether that be a sequel, spin-off or prequel, he doesn’t know. Maybe the “Magneto” spin-off perhaps? ”The only thing that concerns me about Magneto is that if the prequel were to follow the track I used in X-Men, which is Magneto’s history in the concentration camp, then I’ve lived in that world. Apt Pupil, X-Men and now Valkyrie… I’ve lived in that Nazi universe for quite a while. I just might need to take a little break before I do something like that.” (Total Film via Coming Soon)

– Dan Aykroyd and Ivan Reitman speak to The Los Angeles Times about “Ghostbusters 3”. Again.

Film Reccomendation of the Day :

Cobra (1986) – Crime is a Disease, He is the Cure! Who can forget the uber-cheesy trailer for George P.Cosmato’s “Cobra”!? It’s forever marked in my mind. The film itself is too (well, the first half-an-hour of it; I usually lose interest sometime after that). Stallone stars as a no-nonsense cop, usually assigned to take out the garbage and-thats-about-it, who gets involved in a homicide case. Oh, and he wears knee-high snakeskin boots. Sly’s ex-Mrs, Brigitte Nielsen plays a witness to a murder – rather unconvincingly, and Andrew Robinson (typecast as a villain for many years) gets to play a good-guy cop for a change. “Cobra” isn’t such a great film, but it’s a bit of a laugh.  Did you know that the film was actually remade a few years later? Well, let me explain.. “Cobra” was based on the novel “Fair Game” by Paula Gosling. In 1995 ‘William Baldwin’ and Cindy Crawford made ”Fair Game” which was also based on the same novel by Gosling. The films aren’t anything alike though.

Where’s…. the original ideas!?
