Comic-Con : Kevin Smith says Clerks 3 is back on!

While he admits his new film “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot” is the perfect bow and conclusion to all the films in the View Askew universe, writer-director Kevin Smith says there’s one film in the category he does have further plans for.

“‘I’m going to make Clerks 3”, Smith declared tonight at his annual Hall H panel at San Diego Comic Con. “I don’t know if it will be my next film but I will make it.”

The filmmaker had planned to make “Clerks 3” a while back but plans for the film were abandoned after Smith fell out with star Jeff Anderson, who plays Randal.

That version of the film was a much darker take; Smith will start from scratch. And yes, he is determined to get Anderson back.

“When I wrote it, I wrote it during a weirder darker point in my life, and it’s kind of like the King Lear of our movies. I love it, it’s one of my favorite scripts, but it’s dark. It’s bleak, and it’s not what Dante and Randal deserve. We’re never going to make that version, but I’m going to write a different Clerks 3 and we’re going to make that fucking film, I promise. And in a world where we got to bring Ben [Affleck] back, I’ll be able to bring Jeff back.”

Smith revealed that he and Jason Mewes would definitely reprise Jay and Silent Bob for the film.

Smith also revealed plans for further animated “Clerks” adventures. New episodes of the series could be produced as early as this year.
