Cruise-less Mission : Impossible 4?

Remember those rumours about a new ‘’Mission Impossible’’ that could potentially oust Cruise for Pitt?

Yeah?

Well, seems there might have been some truth to those rumours – to the extent that there was a Tom Cruise-less “Mission : Impossible” in the works anyway.

The Pitt thing could’ve just been a juicy add-on by the British Press (and an easy add-on; Pitt’s company Plan B is in bed with Paramount so if they did do another Mission Impossible movie Pitt probably would be one of the actors they’d ask to take over the series) but never the less, someone of Bradley’s caliber would no doubt have been called in to play IMF’s hot new talent.

A Paramount executive tells The Los Angeles Times that they did consider forging ahead with a fourth ”Mission Impossible” – one that wouldn’t have featured Cruise’s Ethan Hunt character.

It ain’t happening though.

Paramount “backed off once it realized the extent of his contractual rights over the material, both as a producer and star”, says the rag.

As for those “Top Gun 2” rumours? Paramount say they’re as fake as Barbara Hershey’s lips.

There’s all this talk about Tom Cruise’s career being in the shitter – I think we all need to wait a couple of weeks before pressing the flush button because this “Tropic Thunder” cameo of his seems to be working magic on audiences. I don’t see his film career going bust – I just see it going in another direction after this. I’d say he’ll experiment with his funny bone for a while (he’s developing a comedic version of “The Hardy Boys” with “Thunder” star Stiller). And if that doesn’t work, he can always start up a website, film himself eating a placenta, and watch those Google AdSense commisisons go through the roof!
