Did ya hear there’s a new Editor over at the Daily Planet!? Laurence Fishburne!

Laurence Fishburne (“Boyz N’ The Hood”, “The Matrix”, “Armoured”) has signed to play Newspaper head Perry White in director Zack Snyder’s ‘Superman’ reboot. Fishburne’s anointment as the cigar-chomping, ear-shattering bigwig of the Daily Planet in “Man of Steel” will no doubt be met with a mix response; some will use the race card to suggest Fishburne’s totally wrong for the part while others will simply commend Snyder for casting a damn fine actor in what’s regarded as one of the smaller roles in the film. Jackie Cooper played White in Dick Donner’s “Superman” (and reprised the character in three sequels) while Frank Langella took over the role for “Superman Returns” (2006). In more recent times, Michael McKean played White on TV’s “Smallville”.

Fishburne has spent the last two years on TV, playing Dr. Raymond Langston on “C.S.I”; he quit the show earlier this year to concentrate on films – films like “Man of Steel”.

The actor joins Henry Cavill, Diane Lane, Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Michael Shannon, Russell Crowe and Julia Ormond in the 2013 blockbuster.

So… whatcha think, guys?

Hugh’s Five Cents : Fishburne has signed on to be the hard-nosed editor-in-chief of the Daily Planet, who uses the reporting brilliance of Clark and Lois to fill his paper. It’ll be his first acting move after leaving CSI earlier this year, with Ted Danson taking his place. This is great casting news, and it looks like the film is progressing nicely, with shooting planned to start in a couple of months, eying a June 2013 release.
What do you think? Is Fishburne a good fit to play Perry White? I do!
