Director Rupert Wyatt has been forced to drop out of Fox’s X-Men spinoff “Gambit”.

The “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” director, who became attached to the film in June, said scheduling conflicts are to blame.

“I was very much looking forward to working with my friend Channing [Tatum] and the team at Fox, but regrettably a push in the start date now conflicts with another project,” Wyatt said in a statement. “I thank them for the opportunity and I know that Gambit will make a terrific film.”

Tatum is attached to star as the titular character. Josh Zetumer wrote the script based on a treatment by “Gambit” co-creator Chris Claremont.

Producers are Tatum, Reid Carolin, Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg.

“Gambit” will release on October 7, 2016.
