Disney exec on Pirates of the Caribbean 6

Will Johnny Depp return?

The oft-circulating rumor of Johnny Depp returning to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is about to do the rounds again.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer mentioned recently that he’d be quite happy to see Depp reprise Captain Jack Sparrow for the next film in the series. Yet while speaking to The New York Times, Disney Studios Motion Picture Production president Sean Bailey said that the studio was “noncommittal at this point” about Depp putting the pirate hat back on.

Bailey did say though that the project is a priority of the studio so we might hear something more concrete soon.

“We think we have a really good, exciting story that honors the films that have come before but also has something new to say,” Bailey told the outlet.

Another Pirates film, said to be an all-female take starring and produced by Margot Robbie, was in the works but is now reportedly on pause while they tinker with it a bit more.
