“I think we’re getting very close on that one”

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about the ongoing success of pandemic box-office wonder Top Gun : Maverick, producer Jerry Bruckheimer offered updates on a couple of sequels he’s developing – and one which seems to have stalled.

Pirates of the Caribbean 6
“I think we’re getting very close on that one”, the Bad Boys for Life producer said. “We have a very good script. We developed two of them — the one with Margot Robbie and one with a younger cast. The Margot Robbie one needs a little more work. The younger cast one is close. Hopefully we’ll get both of them.”

Bad Boys 4
“I mean, Will [Smith] made a mistake, unfortunately”, said the producer. “That’s not who he is. He’s a phenomenal actor and there’s always forgiveness in the world. And hopefully, the audience will forgive him.”

Top Gun 3
Says Bruckheimer, “[Tom Cruise] in the middle of shooting Mission: Impossible 8, and that’s his focus. Once he finishes, we can have a conversation. But then he goes up in space [for an untitled Universal movie] and something else. So I have no idea.”

Bruckheimer is currently producing long-awaited Eddie Murphy sequel Beverly Hills Cop : Axel F, which airs on Netflix next year.
