District A

“District 9” star Sharlto Copley (he plays the film’s unlikely hero, Wikus van de Merwe) has been offered the role of ‘Howling Mad’ Murdock in director Joe Carnahan’s “A-Team”, according to Blackfilm.com.

Producer/Actor Copley would be a rather surprising choice, not only because much bigger names like Jim Carrey and Steve Buscemi had previously been mooted for the part, but because (and I’m forgetting, of course, they’ll likely have him speaking in an American accent) he just doesn’t seem to fit the profile of the character as we know him (from the series). On the other hand, “District 9” has been such a success that it’s no wonder Hollywood producers are clamoring to get their hands on its star. And having seen his amazing performance in the latter, I don’t doubt Copley can pull it off.

Should the South African-actor accept the role, he’ll be inheriting the crazy genes of Dwight Schultz, who played Murdock on the 80s TV series.
