Don’t fear the Reaper axing

The Popular CW series “Reaper” may have been given a new lease on life.

Though the show hasn’t exactly been a ratings winner, it’s developed a rabid fanbase, and if for that reason only, show producer ABC Studios is in talks with CW affiliate stations about continuing “Reaper” as a syndicated series for Sunday night.

So when the network recently decided to give Sunday night back to its affiliates, they started preliminary conversations with ABC Studios about possibly continuing the show with original episodes.

Sources said that ABC Studios also is exploring a possible afterlife for the cult series on cable.

As The Hollywood Reporter points out there could be a couple of problems if another network, say a cable network without the financial reserve, of a major free-to-air broadcaster, picks up the show : Firstly, do they have the money to produce it? The show does cost a bit to do; Secondly, what do they do about co-star Tyler Labine, who plays the sidekick on the show? Labine’s been snapped up to star in Fox’s new series “Sons of Tuscon” – which is apparently magnificent. He’s moved on.

Mightn’t matter, the trade says both abovementioned scenarios for a “Reaper” renewal are longshots.
