Dusty Springfield biopic in the works

A biopic of legendary musician Dusty Springfield is in the works, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Springfield, who passed in 1999, was a British singer with no less than 18 hit songs to her name. Among the London-born artist’s credits, ‘I just Don’t Know what to do with myself’ and ‘I Only Want to Be With You’.

The script is based on Sharon Davis’s book, ”A Girl Called Dusty” and is being developed and produced by Fairbanks , the label set up by Dominick Fairbanks, the great grandson and grandson of Hollywood legends Douglas Fairbanks and Douglas Fairbanks Jr. One of Springfield’s old back-up singers, Simon Bell is onboard the project as a consultant.

Fairbanks Productions said it is working with Universal Music, which owns the majority of the Springfield’s music catalog, and hopes “the most iconic Dusty Springfield hits and recordings will be used for the making of the film.”

The search for a writer, director and star are currently underway.
