Enterprise’s Sophomore Voyage

Not surprisingly, what with how well it’s tracking, Paramount has already greased the wheels – or should that be the duranium hull? – on a “Star Trek” sequel.

Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof have been hired to pen the screenplay for the follow-up, estimated to be in theaters Summer 2011.

The trio, who will also receive producing credits alongside “Trek” director J.J Abrams (yet to decide whether he’ll helm the next chapter), have yet to decide what they’ll be writing about – they’ll let the fans dictate the direction the storyline of the next film goes.

“Obviously we discussed ideas, but we are waiting to see how audiences respond next month,” Lindelof told Variety. “With a franchise rebirth, the first movie has to be about origin. But with a second, you have the opportunity to explore incredibly exciting things. We’ll be ambitious about what we’ll do.”

Orci and Lindelof wrote the script for “Star Trek”. The sequel will be their second collaboration with Lindelorf, who they penned “Cowboys and Aliens” with.
