Exclusive Interview : Matt Lanter

Were you a fan of the original film?

I was born in 1983 so I didn’t grow up with the movie like some people. I had heard of it and seen a few bits here and there but don’t recall seeing the entire film prior to my involvement in the second one. But of course, once I sat down and watched it, I was instantly a fan. It truly is a classic!

How computer savvy are you? Do you live on the internet like Will does?

I actually am pretty computer savvy and love gadgets and all kind of electronics. I’m usually that guy that has to go out and stand in line for the newest greatest gadget! I wouldn’t say that I live on the internet, but I do have my websites that I visit almost on a daily basis. Engadget.com and also Gizmodo.com are among the regulars.

Do you think something like this (what happens in the pic) could actually happen?

Ya know, I’m not really sure. I think we all have our suspicions about government supercomputers that possibly could orchestrate something as large as the one we see in Wargames: The Dead Code. That “unknown” factor is present in this film as well as the original. That’s what makes the whole idea scary, yet intriguing!

Where did you film the movie?

We filmed for about 5 weeks in and around Montreal, Canada in the early winter. It provided some really great locations for us to work with and really has that European feel to it. It was a blast to film…cold…but fun

Tell me about working with Amanda Walsh?

Amanda is great. Both her and I are really goofy when were off camera, so we really got along great. I think you need that when you pretty much spend all your time with a handful people for five weeks.

What’s next for you? Are you contracted for WarGames 3?

I have a few projects coming out soon. I am the voice of Anakin Skywalker for the new Star Wars Clone Wars movie that is coming out August 15th to theaters. I also voice the character for the ongoing series that debuts in October. On top of that, two weeks later on August 29th, Disaster Movie comes to theaters, where I play the lead character. Things are busy for me right now, but I love it and am having a blast. As for Wargames 3, I’m not contracted into it and as far as I know there hasn’t been any discussion about a possible third, but you never know!

WARGAMES : THE DEAD CODE is now on DVD
