Flatliners TV series in the works?

Based on Joel Schumacher’s 1990 spookfest

How cool was “Flatliners” back in the day? Pretty cool I reckon.

I assume it’s still a good watch, just aven’t watched in a few years, so I’ll reserve judgment until I do. In my opinion, most of Joel Schumacher’s films haven’t dated that much – “The Lost Boys” still holds up well; “Tigerland” still packs a huge punch, and though the hairstyles and clothing are a tad daggy, the message in “St. Elmo’s Fire” still rings loud and clear – so I’m guessing his 1990 spookfest starring Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon and Billy Baldwin hasn’t either.

It probably sounds like I’m a champion for Joel Schumacher. Well, I am. Say what you will about his lousy “Batman” flicks – the rest of his stuff is pretty solid (he should be whipped for wasting all that leather and all that Alicia Silverstone, though).

Stephen Susco (“Red”) tells Bloody Disgusting that he’s actually been developing a belated TV series spin-off of the film. I assume it won’t feature any of the same characters, but it probably doesn’t need to (though William Baldwin could probably afford to pop his head in every couple of episodes) – as long as it fixes on a group of medical students experimenting with death, they’re set.

Susco had told smgfan.com around the time of “The Grudge 2” (which he wrote) that he was pitching such a series, but most of us seemed to have skipped over that bit of news. The screenwriter told the site in September of 2006 that, “I’m in the middle of pitching a TV series based on the movie FLATLINERS” (again, he’s not to generous on details about it is he?).

Hopefully after this dreaded writer’s strike Susco can start shopping his idea around again.
