“Jane the Virgin” star Gina Rodriguez is likely to star opposite Mark Wahlberg in Peter Berg’s “Deepwater Horizon.”
According to The Wrap, Rodriguez is in talks for the female lead in the film about the 2010 BP oil spill.
Wahlberg stars as Mike Williams, an electrician aboard the doomed oil rig. Rodriguez would play Andrea Fleytas, an operator of the rig’s navigation machinery, who was reprimanded for attempting to contact the Coast Guard when she noticed that no one had issued a distress signal to the outside world.
Matthew Michael Carnahan penned the screenplay.
“Deepwater Horizon” will release on September 30, 2016.
