Good Role Hunting

Ben Affleck will attempt to revive his acting career with a role in… a film from the director of “Idiocracy”?

The “Gone Baby Gone” director will join Jason Bateman, Mila Kunis (“Forgetting Sarah Marshall”), Kristen Wiig (“Knocked Up”) and Clifton Collins Jr for “Extract”, the new film from writer/director Mike Judge.

And just backtracking for a minute….that was a hasty dig, Mike Judge is great. FOX screwed us/him on “Idiocracy” – too many flies in the ointment on that one. Anyone that’s seen “Office Space” knows Judge is a warlock of wonderous comedy. He’s even the man behind “King of the Hill” and “Beavis & Butthead” – both funnier than anything Affleck’s ever said/done/made in the past. I’ve much confidence in this, Skywalker. Affleck couldn’t be any better hands (though I hear he does have fond memories of JLo’s palm).

Variety says Affleck is in negotiations to play an ambulance-chasing lawyer in the pic, which centers on a flower extract factory owner (Jason Bateman) who’s dealing with workplace problems and a streak of bad luck, including his wife’s affair with a gigolo.

Clifton Collins Jr. is also joining the cast as a factory worker who loses a body part in a freak accident and is now due for a huge settlement. Mila Kunis and Kristen Wiig have already boarded the project, which begins lensing Monday in Los Angeles.

The film marks Affleck’s return to Miramax – the crowd he started out with doing such gems as “Good Will Hunting”, “Shakespeare in Love” and… “Phantoms” (!).
