Got a problem? Odds against you? Call Russell Crowe!

This could be cool…. or oh so bad.

Russell Crowe will step into the late Edward Woodward’s shoes when he takes the lead in “The Equalizer”, the long-gestating feature film take on the classic CBS ’80s action series.

In the series, which ran for four seasons, Woodward played an aging New York vigilante with a mysterious past. People in need find him through a newspaper ad: “Got a problem? Odds against you? Call the Equalizer.”

The L.A Times says that it’s early days – there’s no script, and Bob & Harvey Weinstein are no longer on the project, but Mace Neufeld (“The Hunt for Red October”) remains onboard as a producer, and with Crowe now attached to play McCall the project should pick up steam (unless those poor returns on “The A-Team”, another feature film adaption of an ’80s TV series, puts them off).
