Happy Gilmore hooks up with a Waitress

Keri Russell doing an Adam Sandler movie

Felicity, who? What was it? A show about a…what?

That’s exactly what’s happened with Keri Russell – she seemed typecast for a while there as the frizzy-haired Felicity on the TV series of the same name, but a couple of brave choices later – a role as a feisty sibling in “The Upside of Anger”; an action heroine in “Mission : Impossible 3” and recently, a Southern belle with a heart of, er, silver in “Waitress” – and she’s no longer ‘the girl from Felicity’ but also, one of the most sought-after (by Michael Ausiello, too) actresses around.

Russell has just signed on to star opposite Adam Sandler in the new Adam Shankman-Disney comedy “Bedtime Stories”, says Variety.. OK, so it’s the ‘female lead’ in a Sandler comedy… but think about some of the past on-screen Sandler squeezes – Patricia Arquette, Winona Ryder, Drew Barrymore, Julie Bowen, Bridgette Wilson, Marisa Tomei, Kate Beckinsale – they haven’t exactly been starved for work since sharing the screen with the funnyman. In some respects, he’s a golden nugget to furthering one’s career (just look at Christopher McDonald – OK, maybe not, he’s doing those shitty DTV “American Pie” sequels now). Bottom Line : This one should hurt Russell too much at all, and more importantly, it’s likely to be box-office gold something her past films haven’t been (nope, not even “MI:3” – that did far less than Paramount projected).

In the comedy, Russell will play a potential love interest for Sandler’s character, a harried real estate developer whose life is suddenly turned upside down when the lavish bedtime stories he tells his niece and nephew become real.

The flick will be out next year…. By which time hopefully everyone will have forgotten that Disney released a similar film in 2007 called “Enchanted” and won’t feel jibbed.

I’m Rocking the Mo” Fo’ Cradle!
