Hardy talks Mad Max 4

Scuttlebutt (that’s a term, not some podgy guy I went to college with) says Mel Gibson might be involved in ‘’Mad Max 4’’ (reprising the role of Max), but that writer/director George Miller’s keeping all that under wraps for now. Hard to say whether there’s any truth to the rumour or not – especially considering the trades have already announced Tom ‘Star Trek: Nemesis’ Picard as Gibson’s successor.

And if this interview with Hardy at MTV is anything to go by, it’d seem less and likely that Gibson would be involved in the pic (Personally, I can’t see Mel doing it – if only because he passed on “Lethal Weapon 5”; he seems to be all about ‘original content’). Though Brit actor Hardy says he’s not officially onboard, he as good as confirms he would be playing the role made famous by Mad Mel.

“I would have to pick up where Mel left off, but in all honesty, it would be ridiculous to pick up where Mel left off,” the actor explained. “He is Mad Max. I have to bring something entirely different and new to the stage.”

Hardy, who says he hasn’t had a conversation with Miller yet about how they will be approaching the character of ‘Max’, says “If I get offered it and George really wants to go with me, then George will tell me exactly what he wants to do and we’ll work together on the floor to create what it is that he wants to achieve. And I hope I can get that done for him.”

Hardy, seemingly and understandably nervous to be stepping into Gibbo’s shoes, adds that “If there’s anybody who can create a Mad Max with me playing the character, it’s going to be George — it’s his baby.”

“Mad Max : Fury Road”, a prequel to the original indy classic, will also star Charlize Theron. Production is due to get underway next year.
