Harrison Ford back as Han Solo!?

Could it be true?

Is there a chance we’ll find out what lay ahead for Luke, Leia, Han and pudgy Wicket after the events of “Return of the Jedi”!?

(OK, so those who enjoying reading already know what happened to the rebels, right? – in the books Han and Leia, of course, produced twins (later Jedi’s themselves), the rebels faced a further battle with the Empire – trying to save the planet Coruscant (the character of ‘Wedge’ plays a big part in this arc of the story), and Grand Admiral Thrawn replaced the recently-departed Darth Vader as the galaxy’s big bad.)

For those that can’t fathom slaving over a paperback every night, cinematic episodes 7-9 of the “Star Wars” trilogy are as sought-after us a large wad of Republic Dataries.

Despite his determination to exploit the “Star Wars” in any other which way, writer/director/producer George Lucas has sworn black-and-blue that he’ll never put Episodes 7, 8 and 9 to film – no way, no how. Frankly, I’d say it’s got more to do with Lucas’s fear of asking Harrison Ford to wear Han Solo’s vest again, not to mention the nightmare of seeing Carrie Fisher in Slave-Leia bikini again, than the man wanting to maintain the purity and avoid blundering the the saga. Trust me, if it could be done (i.e if Ford would play Solo again), Lucas would probably do it – actually, he definitely would. Imagine how many ‘Old Man Solo’ action-figures would be sold!? And consider the greenbacks that would slide into the Lucasfilm cash-register after the ‘twins’ lunchboxes hit K-Mart!? Jesus, Lucas could probably ‘buy’ San Francisco with the money that such a trilogy would ostensibly make!

Will it happen? I don’t think so… just seems too difficult a torn cloth to sew back together.

Still, that doesn’t mean it won’t happen – I’m sure Lucas is cluey enough to figure out a way around Ford’s reluctance. Heck, he turn the focus on Han & Leia’s twins!? So there are possibilities…

IESB are reporting that Lucas is indeed planning to do Episode 7, 8, and 9.

The site is down but thanks to caching here’s the original server-struggling article :

Don’t start packing up your lawn chairs and igloo coolers just yet, but there will once again be “camping out” for a Star Wars movie. IESB has learned some news about the future of the Star Wars franchise.

First, let me remind our readers of IESB’s past scoops so anyone doubting the news will be aware. From Joss Whedon directing the Avengers, to the recent announcement of Disney’s planned renegotiation of the Paramount Marvel deal, to the countless casting scoops, directing scoops, to our solid sources at Lucasfilm.

Confirmed IESB scoops specific to the Star Wars universe include the first announcement of the PG-13 rating of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, the first word of a live action Star Wars TV series as well as the Clone Wars animated series. Yes, all of these Lucasfilm scoops were all first reported here on IESB.

Now on to our newest big Lucasfilm scoop, ready? George Lucas is plotting to create new Star Wars movies at the ultra top-secret Skywalker Ranch.

This is déjà vu of the mid 90’s when Uncle George starting tweaking the Holy Trilogy to gear up for the Special Editions. That was his first step in moving forward with the eventual prequel trilogy.

It’s happening all over again, Lucasfilm is already hard at work converting the entire Star Wars saga into 3D which will be released starting with Episode I: The Phantom Menace in 2012. The word from our ultra top-secret Lucasfilm insider is that Lucas has gotten the itch and is already looking ahead into launching an entirely new trilogy in that galaxy far, far away.

What do we know? First of all, these new film will have nothing to do with the live action television series currently in development. That show already has over 50 scripts ready to go and plenty of pre-production time and money has been spent on artwork and storyboards. Once that show goes into production, Lucasfilm hopes to be able to produce at least 100 episodes since that is the threshold for syndication in the United States.

IESB has been told fans can expect the new trilogy after the entire saga is released in 3D which is expected to be complete around 2015 or 2016.

Uncle George’s modus operandi has not changed, the plan is that he will self finance the new trilogy after he rakes in an expected $500 – $750 million dollars with the re-release of the entire Star Wars Saga in 3D and on Blu-Ray.

The ideal plan, according to our spy at Skywalker Ranch, is to be able to release a new Star Wars film within 24 months after the release of the last re-re-release (is that right?) of Return of the Jedi 3D.

Too early for story details but one thing that our source is certain about, they will not be prequels but instead sequels. It’s not for certain if they will be the long awaited Episodes 7, 8 and 9 but could instead be Episodes 10, 11 and 12 or possibly even further out in the Star Wars timeline. And by giving space in the timeline, possibly even as far as 100 years or 1,000 years in the Star Wars universe future, Lucas avoids having to make these stories “fit in” with what the previous stories have told.

According to our sources, the most likely scenario for the films is that they will exist in the same universe but will not have anything to do with the Skywalker Clan. That story has been told, that starship has sailed.

What has caused this sudden change of heart for Uncle George? Well, besides the obvious possible billions that a new Star Wars trilogy will take in, our source tells us that George has gotten motivated with the success the Clone Wars animated series, the video games and also with the success of Avatar.

Can we expect Lucasfilm to confirm our story? Have they ever? Nope, I am sure that they will spin this or completely deny the story, but we will stand 100% behind our source.

Rumours of Episodes 7, 8 and 9 pop up every couple of years and this one, like the others, should be taken with a grain of salt.

More so, Lucasfilm has already denied the rumours.

Still, Lucasfilm denies everything – they even denied that a prequel trilogy was happening a couple of years before “Phantom Menace” hit the screen.

Harry Knowles over at Aint it Cool News believes that it’s always been the plan to do a sequel trilogy set after “Return of the Jedi” but says not to expect it anytime before, well, Lucas’s passing.

”This is not new. This has ALWAYS been George’s plan. Remember last year at this time of the year? When George called it Malarky? Every source I have at Lucasfilm has continually stated that the plan is to do a third STAR WARS trilogy taking place after RETURN OF THE JEDI. But you have to realize – that talking about it, is going to make it miserable waiting for. It is DOWN THE ROAD. The only time it’ll be truly exciting to talk about, is when sets officially get built, when Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford & Mark Hamill get signed to come back, and it is for real. Right now, it is just a plan. A far off plan – and plans can and do change, but it will happen when George is ready – We’re all hoping that new directors will be brought in that are visionary directors. This will happen. BUT between now and then, you’ll continue to hear people like Lucas, McCallum and Sansweet deny and call all such rumors as our right fabrications. That is standard Lucasfilm procedure. BECAUSE – until they’re ready to announce, it does not exist. SO – I suppose it does not exist, but it will.”

I’d love to think that a Hamill/Ford/Fisher/Williams Sequel Trilogy will exist but I’d say, if anything, we’ll get some half-cooked special-effects commercial for some high-range cameras baring the title ‘Episode 7’ – complete with “fun new character”, Spleeshdown LaGroot the Jabba Palace tour guide.
