Cinema’s next exercise in style over substance is sure to be “The Starving Games”, a dollars-grabbing cash-in on “The Hunger Games” from spoof-meisters Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer (“Date Movie”, “Epic Movie”, “Vampires Suck”).
Variety says the flick will also, as is usually custom with these shite spoofs, take the piss out of a mass of other recognizable blockbusters – like the “Harry Potter” series and “The Avengers”.
Can’t recall the last time a spoof even worked… was it the original “Scary Movie”? Reason so many since have failed is because they spend the majority of the time making sure the production values are down pat and neglect the jokes. I guess they’re the cinematic equivalent of Paris Hilton – pretty on the outside, but as a hollow as a log within.
“The Starving Games” – one to whack on your must-see list!
