Jurassic Park will still re-open 2009

Frank Marshall on its progress

I’ve recently returned to the “Jurassic Park” movies – and I gotta say, they’re fun movies (I don’t own “The Lost World” though so wasn’t able to make it a trilogy sit-down – – – but I hear it’s airing on Sci-Fi this month so I’ll check it out when it hits the tube). I think at the time the plot of the films, the first in particular, was probably overshadowed by the terrific visual and special effects – and rightfully so; the dino’s looked great – and perhaps it’s the kind of film you do need to return to in order to truly appreciate it. Believe it or not, there’s a fun, somewhat educational, storyline running side-by-side those bells and whistles.

A fourth “Jurassic Park” has been mooted for years – remember? It was apparently going to have intelligent Dinosaurs wielding guns?! – but besides Sam Neill saying he “wasn’t doing it” a year or so back, there’s been next to no news to report on the film. One would assume Steven Spielberg decided to make the franchise extinct.

Not so, producer Frank Marshall tells Coming Soon that as soon as the WGA strikes ends – if it ends – they’re going to continue working on the script.

“There’s an idea and we just have to see if it shakes out.”

The uber-producer – who’s also keen on doing a fourth “Bourne” film – says the plan is still to get the film into theatres by 2009.

Wonder if they’ll bring back Jeff Goldblum for this one? (it’s his turn, right? Neill got the last one?) or maybe they’ll entice Laura Dern to take centre stage – – since she merely had a cameo in “Jurassic Park 3”?
