Tommy Wirkola has abandoned his post as director of the “Hansel & Gretel : Witch Hunters” sequel.
The filmmaker’s decision is based mostly on a motivation to do more original fare.
“I’ve just decided to not direct Hansel & Gretel 2,” Wirkola tells Fangoria. “I have been lately attached to a few more things. It’s just a matter of time and priorities.”
While Wirkola wrote the script for the sequel, and has passed it onto Paramount, he won’t be involved beyond that.
The “Dead Snow 2” helmer says he wants “to do something a little bit different now and not just do sequels.”
Stars Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton aren’t yet committed to doing the sequel.
