Kick-Ass may climb the Beanstalk

Aaron Johnson (“Kick-Ass”) is ‘director’s pick’ to climb the lime ladder in Bryan Singer’s “Jack the Giant Killer”, according to Deadline.

Chances are Singer was introduced to Johnson through filmmaker Matthew Vaughn, with whom the former is doing the new “X-Men” movie and who worked with the young British actor on “Kick-Ass”. Nothing official yet, but Johnson’s who Singer is apparently eyeballing for the role of the kid with the magical beans.

The film, a dark re-telling of the “Jack and the Beanstalk” fable, was greenlit earlier this week by Warner Bros.

“Jack” has been in development for quite a while – it needed some script work and has a horde of special effects sequences that need to be perfected before putting laddy to lens.

Apparently Warner Bros are the reason Bryan Singer gave up his post as director of “X-Men : First Class”.

Says the site, ”When the Jack script needed work, though, Singer was momentarily tempted to do the X-Men project first. But Warner Bros, which once pulled Singer away from X-Men 3 to do Superman Returns when Fox took too long to close, wasn’t leaving the possibility for payback. Warner Bros locked Singer into a holding deal. Fox instead hired Matthew Vaughn, Johnson’s Kick-Ass helmer, to direct X-Men: First Class. Singer remains a producer.”

“Jack the Giant Killer”, written by Darren Lemke and Mark Bomback with revisions by Christopher McQuarrie, will begin production this Spring.
