King talks Black Sheep follow-up

Doing a film based on a novel from the 70s

Kiwi director Jonathan King, whose sheepish horror flick “Black Sheep” won the praise of many blood buffs this year, is in production on a new film.

Gameplayer got the goods.

‘’I’m in pre-pre-production on a dark fantasy-horror adventure kinda thing called Under the Mountain”, King tells the site. “It’s based on a New Zealand novel from the ’70s that has had a cult following for years. We’re working with Weta again on the creatures and looking forward to making something really creepy and unique.’’

King also touched on his next movie to be released, “The Tattooist”.

‘’The Tattooist is a film I wrote (with Matthew Grainger) but didn’t direct. It’s a creepy story about an American tattoo artist who comes to New Zealand to learn about traditional Samoan tattooing and unleashes a vengeful spirit that tattoos people to death with a hammer and chisel. It’s very different from Black Sheep, but I guess what it has in common is taking a significantly New Zealand element and making that a unique aspect of the film.’’
