Kirk, James Kirk

“Royale” star wants to Boldly Go?

He apparently tossed and turned for nights deciding whether he wanted to risk being typecast as James Bond for the rest for his career when that opportunity was presented to him, so I can’t imagine Daniel Craig would’ve been jumping up and down on the spot when asked whether he wanted to be the new Captain Kirk – but it’s a Monday, and it’s a slow news day, so lets run one from the wildly friggin’ ludicrous pile.

According to an ‘insider’ (probably the youngest cousin of the editor, who dreams that one day he’ll be able to cast his own movies – and marry Jamie-Lynn Spears), the “Casino Royale” star could be the next man to “go…boldly…where…no…man…has…gone….before”. Except, of course, that’s not true, because Craig’s being linked to the role made famous by William Shatner in “Star Trek”.

“I would love a stint in the TV show or in a film,” Craig recently told PR inside. “It’s been a secret ambition of mine for years.”

Now just how big of a “Star Trek” fan is Craig? He does know that there are currently no “Star Trek” shows on the air, right? That’s the line that makes this news a bit whiffy. Is this bit of news taken from an August 1997 issue of Starlog or something – way before Craig was Bond, heck, way before Craig was Craig?

At this stage, Matt Damon is still the current favourite (or at least, the most oft-rumoured) to play Captain Kirk in J.J Abram’s new “Star Trek” movie – but I dare say, it won’t be him, or Craig, in the yellow vest.
