Koepp doing Spider-Man 4

But who will play Spider-Man?

Unsurprisingly, Sony has decided to make a “Spider-Man 4” – despite the fact that original director Sam Raimi and stars Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst have no plans in returning.

“Indiana Jones 4” scribe David Koepp (whoalso did a ‘little bit’ of writing on the first “Spider-Man” film) tells ComingSoon.net that the studio is so ecstatic with “Spider-Man 3” – a rough cut was recently previewed to the employees of the Culver City compound – that they’ve asked him to write a fourth one.

It’ll be an interesting situation, won’t it?.

With Magurie pretty much out of contract and planning to leave the tights behind, Sony may have to find another young chap to don the crimson and webby outfit. A couple of years back, Jake Gullenhaal was rumoured to be in talks for the role – this was when Maguire was playing hardball, so they threatened him by finding a replacement – and I wouldn’t at all be surprised if he’s the man they go to to take over the role after Maguire shoots his last bit of pasty goo.

Dunst will not be returning; but no big sweat, her character isn’t supposed to be involved in the next chapter anyway – so no need to find a look-alike. Instead, Bryce Dallas Howard’s Gwen Stacey – making her debut in “Spider-Man 3” – is rumoured to be filling the void of love interest for the next chapter.

As for director Sam Raimi? He’ll likely be retained in some capacity – probably produce the film; I’m guessing – but as far as I can gather, the man is ready to move beyond the world of the Daily Bugle.
