Kurt Russell Escapes from Django Unchained

A couple of days back, my good mate Jamie at ThinkMcFlyThink let slip that Kurt Russell had walked from Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained”. Being a big fan of Snake, I quickly reached for some quick-eze, while Jamie worked on getting a confirmation.

Today, Jeff Sneider confirms what Jamie’s source leaked, saying Russell has indeed exited the production.

No word yet on the why’s and what’s of the situation, but it’s a damn shame.

Some may recall that Russell actually stepped in at the 11th hour for Kevin Costner on the movie, so the actor cast in the former’s place will ultimately be someone’s third choice. (Russell was also Tarantino’s runner-up guy on “Death Proof”, after Mickey Rourke dropped out.)
Unless, of course, sometime actor Tarantino decides to play the role himself. Heck, better still, hopefully John Travolta gets a call. ‘Bout time we had that “Pulp Fiction” reunion isn’t it, QT?

In addition, Sacha Baron Cohen has also left the production.

The “Dictator” actor told The Howard Stern Show (via HitFix) “That was going to be a cameo, but I had to drop out because of [‘The Dictator’s] press tour.”

Sounds like someone’s been feeling up actors on the set. Either that or O.J Simpson has been hired to play Jamie Foxx’s on-screen brother in the movie. They’re dropping like flies over there in wild west land!

“Django Unchained”, written and directed by Tarantino, stars Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Academy Award®-winner Christoph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles – dead or alive.

Success leads Schultz to free Django, though the two men choose not to go their separate ways. Instead, Schultz seeks out the South’s most wanted criminals with Django by his side. Honing vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), the wife he lost to the slave trade long ago.
django-unchained-movie-image-leonardo-dicaprioDjango and Schultz’s search ultimately leads them to Calvin Candie (Academy Award®-nominee Leonardo DiCaprio), the proprietor of “Candyland,” an infamous plantation where slaves are groomed by trainer Ace Woody (the character Kurt Russell was going to play) to battle each other for sport. Exploring the compound under false pretenses, Django and Schultz arouse the suspicion of Stephen (Academy Award®-nominee Samuel L. Jackson), Candie’s trusted house slave. Their moves are marked, and a treacherous organization closes in on them. If Django and Schultz are to escape with Broomhilda, they must choose between independence and solidarity, between sacrifice and survival…

“Django Unchained” is out Christmas Day; Russell and Cohen are out already — like what I did there?
