Leo, Tobey & Seyfried in a remake of The Great Gatsby!?

“The Great Gatsby” is headed back to cinema screens – and no, not with Vincent Chase as the headliner.

Production Weekly says Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Amanda Seyfried are being touted for roles in the latest film adaptation of the classic F.Scott Fitzgerald yarn.

Nick Carraway, a young Midwesterner now living on Long Island, finds himself fascinated by the mysterious past and lavish lifestyle of his neighbor, the nouveau riche Jay Gatsby. He is drawn into Gatsby’s circle, becoming a witness to obsession and tragedy.

DiCaprio would be Jay Gatsby, Maguire would be Nick Carraway, and Amanda Seyfried (right) would be [a wonderful] Daisy Buchanan.

Last we heard Baz Luhrmann (who is currently putting together a “Strictly Ballroom” stage musical) was attached to direct. Assume that’s still the case?

“Gatsby” has already been made into a film five times, most recently in 2007 with Kang Kyeong-joon, Park Ye-jin and MC Mong headlining a Korean version. The most noteworthy adaptation of the book is the 1974 version with Robert Redford and Mia Farrow.

Some might say the second season of “Californication” is loosely based on “Gatsby”, with Lew Ashby, Janie Jones and Hank Moody playing the modern incarnations of Gatsby, Carraway and Buchanan.
