Liam Neeson is set to shake up his tough-guy persona – much in the same way Leslie Nielsen did in the late ’70s when the drama movie staple started doing spoof flicks – with a reboot of ’80s classic The Naked Gun.
Per Deadline, The Cold Pursuit and Memory star is in negotiations to play the lead – someone other than Lt. Frank Drebin, Nielsen’s character in the original Naked Gun movies (it’s rumored he might be playing Drebin’s son) – in Akiva Schaffer’s reinterpretation of the 1988 film.
Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, who just worked with Schaffer on the Emmy-winning Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers pic, have closed a deal with Paramount Pics to write.
Seth MacFarlane, a producer on the pic, approached Neeson – who he worked with previously on A Million Ways to Die in the West and Ted 2 – about the idea and the Star Wars alum jumped at it.
