Long shot at Redford film

Barrymore’s beau, Justin Long, seems to be slowly but surely graduating to more adult, less frazzled-kid roles.

The short stack, best known for his roles in “He’s Just Not That Into You” (opposite Drew), “Die Hard 4.0” and “Jeepers Creepers” (reckon there’s any chance of a Long cameo in the upcoming third installment? Nah, me either), has signed to co-star in director Robert Redford’s “The Conspirator”.

“Conspirator” tells the story of Confederate sympathizer Mary Surratt (Robin Wright Penn), who was tried as a conspirator in the Lincoln assassination, and Col. Frederick Aiken (James McAvoy), who reluctantly agreed to defend her before a military tribunal.

Long plays a soldier who lost a limb in the Civil War and is McAvoy’s best friend and conscience.

I believe this is Long’s first period piece (if you don’t count the outdated antics of the last “Die Hard”) and inarguably his meatiest part (Drew may argue that).
