Macpherson eyes off The Cup

Australian actor Daniel Macpherson (“Neighbours”, “White Collar Blue”) has joined the cast of Simon Wincer’s next flick, “The Cup”.

The long-gestating drama stars Stephen Curry (“The Castle”) as jockey Damien Oliver. The Sunday Herald-Sun reports that McPherson will play Oliver’s brother, Jason. For his role, McPherson ”has been on a strict diet and fitness regimen in an effort to lose weight for the role” of a jockey.

Wincer (“Free Willy”, “Lonesome Dove”) co-wrote the script for “The Cup” with Eric O’Keefe. It tells the true story is a young jockey who loses his only brother in a tragic racing accident just days before the Melbourne Cup and suffers through a series of discouraging defeats only to triumph in one of the most thrilling finales in all sport.

Ray Winstone also stars. Roadshow Films will distribute the picture.
