McCarthy, Lee join Knocked Up spin-off

As you’d have guessed from my conversation with “Bridesmaids” director Paul Feig a couple of weeks ago, he and producer/collaborator Judd Apatow are huge fans of actress Melissa McCarthy – who walks away with most of the laughs in the Kristen Wiig starrer. While Feig and Apatow continue developing a new project for McCarthy (and another “Bridesmaids” castmember, Jon Hamm), THR says Apatow has asked McCarthy (possibly best known for her role on TV’s “Gilmore Girls”) to play a part in his new film, “This is Forty” (a title that will likely change in due course).

The film is a spin-off of “Knocked Up” with Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann reprising their roles; Albert Brooks and Megan Fox are also onboard.

“Super 8” actor Ryan Lee is also joining the flick; it’s understood he’ll play the son of McCarthy’s character.
