“Lawrence of Arabia” actor Peter O’Toole retires at 79
O’Toole, whose many credits include “Lawrence of Arabia”, “The Last Emperor”, “Supergirl” and “My Favorite Year”, has decided to give up the gig. Writes the 79-year-old actor, “Dear All. It is time for me to chuck in the sponge. To retire from films and stage. The heart for it has gone out of me: it won’t come back. My professional acting life, stage and screen, has brought me public support, emotional fulfillment and material comfort. It has brought me together with fine people, good companions with whom I’ve shared the inevitable lot of all actors: flops and hits. However, it’s my belief that one should decide for oneself when it is time to end one’s stay. So I bid the profession a dry-eyed and profoundly grateful farewell. Ever, Peter O’Toole.”
“Secret Circle” star does “White Rabbit”
“Secret Circle” and “Life Unexpected” star Britt Robertson has joined the cast of the dark bully drama “White Rabbit”. Sam Trammell and Nick Krause also star in the flick, the latter playing Robertson’s boyfriend. Tim McCann directs.
“Ten Cent Pistol” adds TV vets Mantegna, Arkin
Joe Mantegna (“Criminal Minds”) and Adam Arkin (“Chicago Hope”, “The West Wing”) will star in “Ten Cent Pistol”, a drama about two brothers whose criminal behaviour catches up to them. “Hunger Games : Catching Fire” recruit Jena Malone, JT Alexander and Damon Alexander have the lead roles. Brendan Sexton III, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Emilio Rivera and Haylie Duff also star in the Michael C.Martin directed film.
“Twilight” star has “Drinking Buddies”
Oscar Nominee Anna Kendrick (“Twilight”, “Up in the Air”, “What to Expect When You’re Expecting”) has joined the cast of Joe Swanberg’s Chicago-lensed comedy “Drinking Buddies”.
“Piranha 3DD” writers tackle “God of War”
Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan will rewrite “Gods of War”, the Sony Pictures adaptation of the best-selling Playstation video-game. The project was previously set up at Universal.

“Man of Steel” Easter Eggs
Ways off before we see them, but nevertheless “Man of Steel” will encompass several Easter Eggs. Comic Book Movie says Warners are structuring the reboot of the ‘Superman’ film franchise in a way that’ll link it to DC’s other stable of superheroes (kind of like what Marvel did with “Iron Man”), “According to our source part of WB’s plan is to use Man Of Steel and drop hints that Superman is in a shared universe with his DC counterparts. The hints will be very subtle such as character mentions. The one character that DC is really wanting to reference is Wonder Woman. The source was unclear on if this would be to set up a solo movie for the Amazon Princess or to the Justice League, but with the info that was just posted it seems more likely to be the JLA.
The references are not set in stone at the moment so take this with a little pinch of salt, however they aren’t expected to be big. So don’t expect character cameos or anything like that. The hope is that if Man Of Steel is successful enough, they can use them as a spring board in to either other solo films or the Justice League film.”
Jason Bateman knows some “Bad Words”
Comeback comedy regular Jason Bateman (“Horrible Bosses”) will make his directorial debut on “Bad Words”, an Andrew Dodge-written laffer about “a bitter thirtysomething (Bateman) who uses a loophole in the system to enter a national kids’ spelling bee.”
Bateman previously directed episodes of his ’80s sitcom “The Hogan Family”.

A making-of featurette has been sent our way for the new 3D stop-motion comedy thriller from animation company LAIKA, reteaming the company with Focus Features after the groundbreaking Academy Award-nominated “Coraline.” “ParaNorman” is, following “Coraline,” the company’s second stop-motion animated feature to be made in 3D. In “ParaNorman,” a small town comes under siege by zombies. Who can it call? Only misunderstood local boy Norman (voiced by Kodi Smit-McPhee), who is able to speak with the dead. In addition to the zombies, he’ll have to take on ghosts, witches and, worst, of all, grown-ups, to save his town from a centuries-old curse. But this young ghoul whisperer may find his paranormal activities pushed to their otherworldly limits.
