Might Stallone direct a Rambo prequel?

In an effort to keep the competition back behind the wheel, Sylvester Stallone’s going the extra mile to make sure “The Expendables”, released on the same day as another highly-anticipated film “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World”, wipes the floor clean with Michael Cera’s posterior. To do this, the award-winning star of “Rhinestone” has recruited the services of one Harry Knowles, who has gladly given Sly some floorspace over on Aint it Cool News to pimp his testosterone-fueled actioner.

All week, Sly is answering questions for fans over on the site – ya know, stuff like “What really went on behind-the-scenes on Staying Alive? Are those rumours true?” and “Will there be a remastered version of Party at Kitty and Stud’s hitting Blu-ray anytime soon?”. Today, Sly responded to a question regarding the chances of a potential “Rambo” prequel.

Stallone recently scrapped plans for a fifth “Rambo”, believing that “Rambo” was the perfect ending for the character. But might he consider telling Rambo’s back-story in a film set before the events of “First Blood”?

”I certainly think this is worth pondering because it’s intriguing to find the whys and wherefores of how people have come to become what they are” Stallone said. “The traumas, the loss and the tragedy of being in Vietnam would certainly be a great challenge for a young actor and it would be ironic that Rambo directs younger Rambo after having played it for 20 plus years.”

Sounds cool. And not a bad idea, either. Gonna be hard to cast though, Sly’s shoes are mighty big shoes to fill.
