A Monster Calls given awards season release

Focus Features has given “A Monster Calls” a new release date of December 23.

The film was originally slated to debut on October 21, but will now get a limited release in December before going wide on January 6, 2017.

Liam Neeson, Lewis MacDougall, Felicity Jones, Toby Kebbell, Sigourney Weaver and Geraldine Chaplin star in the film which is directed by Juan Antonio Bayona. Patrick Ness adapted the screenplay from his own novel “A Monster Calls.”

A visually spectacular drama from acclaimed director Juan Antonio Bayona, based on the award-winning children’s fantasy novel, the story concerns 12-year-old Conor (Lewis MacDougall) as he attempts to deal with his mother’s (Felicity Jones) illness and the bullying of his classmates by escaping into a fantastical world of monsters and fairy tales that explore courage, loss, and faith.
