More about The Hoff’s return to Knight Rider

Clint’s got the goods on his big scene

So, I heard today that William Daniels might not be reprising his vocalish role as K.I.T.T for the new “Knight Rider” series. And as great as it is to hear that David Hasselhoff is returning to reprise his role as Michael Knight in the show (or the pilot), it doesn’t sound like he’ll have much of a part – it’ll be no less than a glorified cameo.

Wanna know about his big scene? OK… The scene that his character appears in is one late in the third act where his son, the show’s hero, visits the grave of his mother. It’s there that a “mysterious stranger” appears… Michael Knight (he’ll start off as a silhouette and then come into focus). This is about 75 minutes into the pilot – which I assume runs for about an hour and a half, extracting ads – so he’s basically the ‘surprise!’ near the end. It’s the first time father and son have seen each other in 20 years. I assume it ends with either a handshake or hug… and the possibility that Michael Knight might appear in the show again at some point or another down the track. But he’s definitely not a series regular.

But I hope the producers come to their senses and re-recruit Daniels to voice K.I.T.T – he is K.I.T.T. Who can forget the flamboyant Queer Eye-style mumblings of the car? The last thing we need is some two-bit comedian coming in and doing his ‘best’ Bill Daniels.

The show, which will kick off with a two-hour telemovie, fixes on Michael Knight’s son Mike and his childhood girlfriend Sarah who are informed by K.I.T.T that her father – the guy who created K.I.T.T – is missing. They discover her father is alive, but the target of private military contractors who were sent to kill them all and destroy the talking car. Seems a shady millionaire approached Charles Kamen, K.I.T.T’s creator, to build him a talking car… and when Kamen refused, the wealthy prick put a hit out on Kamen and decided to steal his car.

On their mission, Mike and Sarah are assisted by a 30-something FBI agent named Carrie and Mike’s Asian roommate Dylan.
