Moviehole MailBag – 10/3/05

I’m in the office. A Cat’s sitting on the top of my monitor as I write this. It’s giving me a sly look. Something tells me puss is laughing at the mere thought of me penning another MailBag. Inside, she’s saying to herself ‘Guy with beer the guru of movies?…who’s he kidding?’. While I show a friend a microwave, I’ll let you read this weeks bunch of Q & A’s. Few special guests to answer your questions this week, including ‘Hey Kids, Look it’s former "Star Trek : The Next Generation" star Wil Wheaton’!

Hey, do you have any news about the new Quantum Leap movie "A Bold Leap Forward" and is it going to spawn off into a new series? When should we expect this and with Star Trek Enterprise ending, will Scott Bakula star?
Jason

Jason,
I personally think we’ve got more chance of reanimating Jim Henson than a new Bakula-starring “Leap” series. It’s been discussed that he’ll be in the pilot of this new series, but that’s it, and even that’s about as un-concrete as a farmer’s driveway. For a better answer, I’ll pass you over to ‘Jo’, of ProjectQuantumLeap.com : “There is no definite word at this time of a [new] Quantum Leap show. There have been a number of rumors of a new series that will have Sam’s daughter as the leaper. If this rumor is true, it will probably be a series for the fall lineup”, she says. In otherwords Jase, lean in, and watch this space – – right here.

Hey Clint,
Is there any new news on what is going on with “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 4”?
I hope it isn’t CGI
Winston

Winston,
A couple of years back John Woo was toying with the idea of doing a CGI “Turtles” pic, but it fell through. Apparently there are plans for a new live-action “Turtles” sequel but it’s still in the ‘I think I’ve got an idea’ stage. No need to Cowabunga just yet.

This is for your Q & A mailbag.
1) Will Ice cube make another “Friday” movie ?
2) Is there any talk or chance of another “karate kid” movie?
3) Any news on the “A-team” movie ?
Thanks, Darren

Darren,
You know it’s a buck a question, right? You got Pay Pal set up?
Kidding aside, I don’t think the Cube-ster will be fronting up for another “Friday” – he’s got better offers on the table. There’s talk of another “Karate Kid” movie, but, well, let’s leave it at that, and “The A-Team”? – No news of late, unless, of course, you missed the report about Mike Myers signing on as Hannibal? Should I leave a blank line here and then recommence the next paragraph with “You’ve been Punk’d”?

Hey Clint,
Has Wil Wheaton ever been asked to return to TV’s “Star Trek” after he left “Next Generation” and is it true that the finale of “Enterprise” end with Riker etc simply watching a Hologram of Archer’s crew etcetera?
Patrick

Good questions – here’s the man himself, Wil Wheaton, to answer : “That’s such a cool rumor, I hate to declare it completely false . . . but it is. Unless it isn’t, and this whole thing is a clever ruse to throw you off. In all seriousness, other than my brief (and cut from the film) appearance in Star Trek Nemesis, I haven’t put on Wesley Crusher’s uniform or over sized brain since the episode "Journey’s End" so many years ago. If fans are interested in what it was like to work on Nemesis, they may want to pick up my book "Just A Geek," which has an entire chapter about those two wonderful days a couple of years ago”. Thanks Wil, good to know you’ll always ‘Stand By Me’ when it comes to needing a fan query answered.

I was happy to see that you’re going to cover the SXSW Festival. I’m hoping for some news and reviews on Rebecca Cook’s film “Shooting Livien” starring Jason Behr. Can you deliver? I love this site!
Holly

If Max is in the house, we’re there – or at least Tim is, our man at SXSW. I’ve asked Tim to see what he can do about getting the ‘Behr’ facts on Jason’s new film whilst there. Keep your peepers glued to the news page.

I was just wondering if you knew who the villain is going to be for “Spiderman 3”, I’ve heard a lot of rumours that it was going to be venom. I was just wondering if you can at least give me some hints or some suggestions on who the villain might be.
Ty

Ty,
Yeah, I hear it’s going to be Ash. Sam Raimi took him from “Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash” and plonked him straight into “Spider-Man vs. Ash”, at theatres near you 2007. All makes sense now, huh? (The serious answer is : No idea yet bud, but the rumour is – and you know how reliable those things are – Venom)

Clint,
I love you! You’re funny! Now where’s Denise Richards hiding these days?
Elisabeth

Elisabeth,
You know how strong the shade of red on the ‘Showgirls” DVD box is? That’s me right now – you make me go all golly gosh. Denise? Oh, she’s in court – signing divorce papers. Didn’t you hear?

Hey man,
Chris again. Who is writing the “Magneto” spin-off? And also I don’t know if u knew this but in the comics wolverine was in ww2 and was a part of Canadian Special Forces. It turns out he rescued magneto from the camps. What do u think are the chances of that happening in the movie?
Chris

Chris,
Slim to none. As for the writer, his name is David Benioff, he’s the guy that wrote “Troy” – has a few thing for muscly men by the sounds. In terms of the movies he writes not….oh forget it.

I just wanna know… is “Italian job 2” going to happen and what’s the news about it. And also what’s the news of the “Transporter” sequel?
Mazen

Mazen,
“Transporter 2” is in the can – news enough? It’s out soon. As for “Italian Job 2”, plans for it have gone sour. Kinda like the cheese dip from last Friday night’s party here that I just decided to dip my finger in and try.

It’s been a long time since I heard the news of one my favorite books, Kelley Armstrong’s "Bitten", being made into a film (reportedly starring Angelina Jolie). I haven’t heard a damn thing about it in months and am still waiting for news. Is the film still on and, if so, what’s the latest?
Nick

Nick,
my answer – not unlike the lead character in the film – is gonna suck for you I’m guessing. Seems the project fell apart sometime in 2003. Could get going again sometime – but nothing on the radar.

What’s up man! Great site you got here… Out of all the Movies coming out in 2005, which one do you think has the chance to knock off Titanic as the Highest Grossing movie of all time?
Cheesy plug—(www.kamieke.com)

Yo, Wassup Cheesy Plug!
I’m thinking “Son of the Mask” has a chance at the title…..OK, OK in all seriousness, “Star Wars Episode III : Revenge of the Sith” is the one I’m – and anyone else with a faint idea of how things work – predicting to be the biggie for ’05. “Batman Begins” is also likely to be quite big, but something tells me George Lucas is going to be able to retire – actually, the whole Lucasfilm camp – on the returns this next one is going to make.

I’m a Netflix member, and I was surfing through the site a couple of days ago and ran across this page (Halloween 9): . Now I have never known Netflix to put a movie in their listings before it hits theatres, and was kinda’ wondering if it might go straight to video being that it is listed as 2005 on their site?
By the way, on the ROCKY movies…
Some people have trouble with the Rocky movies because the say Rocky’s too old, when in fact, Rocky isn’t actually that old… In ROCKY I, Rocky is only 25-26 years old if that. Then you have ROCKY II which picks up right after ROCK I (Age – 25-26), and in ROCKY III Rocky fought Clubber 2 years later (Age – 28-29), and in ROCKY IV it started with Rocky coming home right after giving Apollo his favor (the rematch), "What happened to your face dad?""A friend happened." "Some friend…" (Age – still 28-29) Then you have ROCKY V which takes place right after ROCKY IV. (Age is still 28-29 and maybe 30 by this time). Stallone has aged, Rocky has not…
P.S. Love the site, have visited it every day for the past 2 years!!!
Bojenski

Only the last two years huh? You missed those pics of me in the bathtub that were posted on the site in ’99 then, right? Shame.
Lovin’ that “Rocky” trivia, nice one. As for “Halloween 9”, that’s the storyline for the comic from my memory, also Dimension tells me that’s as fake as Carmen Electra’s tits. Nothing on it yet sorry.

Hey Clint,
I know you have been getting numerous questions about “Ghostbusters 3”. I know that will never happen. But what is Ernie Hudson up to these days? Also will “The Real Ghostbusters” cartoon ever get released on DVD?
Thanks, Sam

Sam,
You can catch Hudson in this month’s “Miss Congeniality 2”, reprising his role as McDonald. He’s also recently been in “Lackawanna Blues”, “Marilyn Hotchkiss’ Ballroom Dancing and Charm School” and, ah, “Clifford’s real big movie” (which he provided a voice-over for). Doesn’t seem to be a date for any “Real Ghostbusters” DVD’s, but “Splinter Cell” penner JT Petty tells me he’s hankering : “I’ve been campaigning for the Real Ghostbusters DVD release for years now, without effect. I’ll keep doing my best, but can’t promise anything”. He’s joking unfortunately Sam.

True Lies 2 will definitely be one of the first films Arnie makes when he comes back. Here is a possible storyline the film could go in: The Russians were always the bad guys James Cameron wanted Harry Tasker to take on next ala Rambo in his first draft, but maybe Arab’s will be the baddies once again. Check out this possible plot: Charlton Hestons’ character boss in True Lies has retired and Arnold Schwarzennegers’ Harry Tasker has taken over command of Omega Sector. Helen is now a special agent with a high rank in Omega Sector and has a few good missions under her belt now. The mission is to see if they can track down any evidence of "Weapons of Mass Destruction" in Iraq and see if it has any connection to where Osama Bin Laden is hiding out. Of course, they will not find him – even fiction movies have to have some mild connection to reality if they want to be taken seriously – but what they will find is Juno Skinners’ old network is up to no good even without her around to head it up anymore because she organized it that well. It will turn out that the movies’ version of a motive for 9/11 will be that the terrorists weren’tt just getting revenge for perceived Western mistreatment of Saudi Arabia and other countries following the first Gulf War; they were also getting revenge for the Americans interfering with the terrorist operations of the baddies in True Lies.
What will make True Lies 2 work is that the assignment of the first movie will be complete.
AB King

AB,
Schwarzenegger’s gotta hire you one-day, right? Your enthusiasm alone deserves a gig as the Governor’s shoe-polisher?, right?

Clint,
I think I saw you at the premiere for Delta Goodrem’s film this week. You were talking to that guy from The Late Show?
Nick

Nick,
You should’ve come on over and said hello, it was indeed me. That guy from the Late Show was Mick Molloy – we were probably on a mad hunt for the bar

What does Region 4 DVDs mean. I live in the states and I backed out of order "The Shiralee" because of that warning. I have a new Denon DVD-2900 that’s supposed to play any and everything. What do you think? Region 4 and my Denon 2900? Also, why must you ask for a signature for a package deliver of only one DVD? That is very inconvenient. Can that be sidestepped if I order?
Harry

Harry,
more a question for EzyDVD, who you were going to buy it off, but a quick search on google about your player (by the way, Region 4 means it’s from Australia, Region 1 is America – different formats) : that yep, it’s multi-zone, meaning if you buy “The Shiralee” it should definitely work. Maybe email the aforementioned site first before you do so though.

Hey there Clint,
I was just sitting back and wondering if you had any information on when we can expect the next 2 instalments of “Infernal Affairs” to hit the US? I bought the first part and loved the film, with the potential release of Scorsese’s version coming out when can we expect parts 2 and 3 to hit DVD here?
Johnny 5

Johnny-5 is Alive!
A quick search didn’t result in any U.S release dates for either sequel, though I dare say they’ll be out this year.

Hey Clint…I’m Erika from the Philippines….There is news that I heard that Hollywood is doing a remake or A Hollywood Version of the Filipino Horror/Thriller Box-office Hit "FENG SHUI" (this movies was a big hit in the Philippines last year 2004) and I guess Brad Pitt is involved. So please can u tell me something about that?
Erika

Erika,
Plan B Productions, owned by estranged couple, Hollywood superstars Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston, do own the rights to “Feng Shui”. There’s no movement on it yet – me thinks Brad and Jen are too rapt up in divorce proceedings.

Hey there,
Just wanted to say I love the site and I go here practically every day and I wanted to ask if you’re a big fan of buffy/angel? You seem to do a lot of articles around the shows or actors involved. I LOVE buffy and angel, some might say I’m obsessed. But I was just wondering, also what’s up with Tarantino? I heard he was working on the war epic any news on that or any of his other plans?
Matt

Matt,
What’s up with Tarantino? Yeah I know – did he get a banana as a chin implant or something? Oh, you mean what movies he’s doing next? No doubt you read this week’s news about Tarantino directing the next instalment of “Friday the 13th” – so if that comes off, that’s his next. No movement on his war epic “Inglorious Bastards” as yet – but that’s something he apparently plans on doing sometime before Michael Madsen’s trapped in video-hell forever. Am I a “Buffy” fan? No, unless of course you consider sleeping in “Cordy” pyjamas, having ‘Lorne’ as my wallpaper, and sending constant emails to Sarah Michelle Gellar telling how much I’d love to get a ‘Stake’ with her sometime, obsessed?

Just wondering what is the Suspense king M.Night Shyamalan doing next or planning to do in the future?
Becker

After “The Village”, I’m hoping, well, nothing – anyone else think that sucked the hard one?

Hey Clint my man…
What’s Rob Cohen’s future Projects…Action Related and what’s Jerry Bruckheimer working on besides the “pirates” movies?
Modz

Cohen will direct Keanu Reeves in a new version of “Sinbad” (sounds scary huh?), whilst Bruckheimer’s future pics include sports-effort “Glory Road”, and “G-Force”, due in ’06.

Will we see another “Spy Kids” movie in the future? What’s Adam Sandler’s next after "Click” is he going to make another comedy movie?
Austin

Sandler’s not going anyway – he’ll continue to produce and star in comedies until he’s, well, as ripe as Pauly Shore. “Spy Kids 4”? Nope, I think Robert Rodriguez would rather return to making movies on a budget the equivalent of a school lunch order than do that. And seriously, who wants another one? That last one bit

Hey hey hey Hamodi is back in town…
I wanted to ask you, are there going to be sequels to “Lemony Snicket” and “Ace Ventura”?
Hamodi

Hamodi,
More chance of a “Lemony Snicket” sequel than a third “Ace Ventura” (wouldn’t be surprised it they do a straight to video sequel in due course though) I’d think. Still, nothing to report at this stage. See you next week.

Is there going to be another Jack Ryan and “League of extraordinary Gentlemen” movie?
Greg

Both those franchises have been put on hold for the moment. Ben Affleck’s committed to making another Ryan movie (At one stage deemed to be “Red Rabbit”) but his track record has been so sour of late, that they’ve buried plans for that deeper than my cat’s bones in my backyard. Instead, Paramount are making films of some of Tom Clancy’s other books – “Without Remorse”, “Rainbow Six” and the game, “Splinter Cell”. As for “League”, there were rumours that an Australian-filmed sequel may be on the cards, but that rumour smells as stinky as an unwashed bath.

I am a daily visitor to your wonderful website and enjoy reading everything from the site, Movie Reviews, the Interviews and especially the movie news. Enough with the sucking up to you Mr. Clint. Is there any new information on the Video Game “Tekken” being made into a movie, I read that the director of “Mr. 3000” and “Paid in Full” was set to direct, and was looking to getting big name actors/actress’ attach to the film and trying to create it similar to the Bruce Lee movie “Enter the Dragon”. Thanks, Michael V. California, U.S.A.

Michael,
“Tekken” is slowly coming together. Mike Werb’s writing the screenplay. Brian J.White is rumoured for a role. Unfortunately, I’ve got fewer details on this than I have memories of my 21st birthday party.

Clint,
Any other Webmaster would put up photos of their wedding photos – and probably on their front page! – I read a while back here that you got married. So give it up, wheres a photo of the lovely couple?
Samantha

Samantha,
If you’re ever feeling a little randy – pull out this pic, sure to do it for anyone. Yep, that’s me with the flowing blonde hair.

Clinto,
What’s the latest on “Tremors 5”?
Steven

It’s only fair that you’re called Steve-O, now, then, though, OK?
Stampede Entertainment have a response for you : “Sorry but no news on anything Tremors related.” That means, ah, nothing yet. I believe there’s a script out there for “Tremors 5”, but Universal haven’t decided to do anything with it yet.

Tom Welling. Great on Smallville and I can understand why his fans want him to be Superman, but he didn’tget the part. He’s doing other movies and he’s doing Smallville. I can’t believe people are bitching so much about the fact that he didn’t get the part that the producers or whoever are considering firing Brandon Routh. That’s bullshit. It’s not like Tom needs a job. He’s got a great one already. If they do hire Tom, he better have some damn good chemistry with Kate Bosworth, otherwise they’re gunna have to recast Lois. But uh-oh, hold on a second, then the Kate fans are gunna protest that. Pssh. Get over it people. Routh got the role. Give him a chance.
Sawyer

Sawyer,
How’d you get off the Island? Are you hiding a laptop from Jack and the gang?
Anyway, yeah, totally agree with you. As good as Welling is, as Clark, and we’d love to someday see him inherit the cape (here’s hoping they end the series with him in the suit) – I think it’s good that they’re keeping both ‘Super’ movie and series separate. If they had of cast him in the movie, they’d have to cast sex-moppet Erica Durance to come as Lois too. If only for me. But yeah, all you guys with the BS “Welling is going to be Superman still” rumours – stop it, I got spam to read.

Do you know if George Miller is going back to “Mad Max 4: Fury Road” after he finishes up his CG animated “Happy Feet”? 2 years ago Fox Studio heads were excited about the hundreds of storyboards Miller had for “Fury Road”, Gibson was signed on, and filming was set for summer 2003 in Africa. Then the Iraq War started, and “Fury Road” was put on hold due to the perceived danger of filming overseas at that time. What now? He wouldn’t just scrap the movie, would he? Is this something else we can blame on Dubbya?
Major Tom

Major Tom,
I’m afraid – from what I’ve heard – that Miller has indeed scrapped the project. Mel’s gone cold on it apparently. They had a production office set-up in Sydney for the film, then, it suddenly shut. I think we’ve got more chance of seeing Mel in an “Air America” sequel than “Fury Road”, at the moment. I’ll let you – and you other guys – know if I hear more. If you’re reading Mel, put down the cigar, lay down the bible and drop us an email and give us an update.

Hi,
Some time ago you had been reporting that the mid 90’s series "American Gothic" was going to be re-made into a new movie and a possible new series afterwards. Then nothing. What’s going on with that project?.
Barry

Barry,
Here’s Producer Craig Marquardo with an official update : “No new movement. Still in NBC/Uni’s hands”. Basically, Fathom Motion Pictures wants to make a new “Gothic” film and consequent series, with most of the original cast – sans Lucas Black – returning. It’s in the court of the rights holders as to whether it really happens or not.

Clint,
I want to play Jason in the next “Friday the 13th”, the Tarantino one? Can I?
Warlock

Warlock,
I heard Michael Madsen’s already got the job. I dare say you’re capable though – I noticed your email address is direct from a mental institiuon.

The Penalty for people saying Brandon Routh is going to be sacked in favour of Tom Welling for “Superman” is $1 million dollars!

Love it dude….no, wait….but I make the jokes here, alright?!

Clint,
Does the other girl in “Hating Alison Ashley”, care that Delta is getting all the press?!
Wendy

Wendy,
No need for you and Peter to worry….that’s a Neverland, gag…..Saskia Burmeister tells me she’s quite fine with the media frenzy on Delta Goodrem and not herself. “I actually really don’t mind Delta’s getting all the press…I kinda like it. She’s doing an amazing job of trying to go ‘it’s not my movie, it’s Saskia’s movie’ anyway. She has been so gracious like that. She’s a fantastic drawcard – because nobody knows who I am”.

What do you think of “Cursed”?
Dave

Two words : Review Section.

Hey Guys,
I wanted to tell you that I love your site, and always have, it’s great that you answer everyone’s questions in your MailBag. You must be a nice guy!
Christine

Christine,
Thanks! And I don’t mind at all. I simply tie my wife to the bed for half an hour, wonder off and answer the questions, then uncuff her. It’s a win-win for everyone.

Got a couple stories for you after reading your mailbag. (which was especially witty this time around. amazing what you come up with on a couple hours sleep.) “Star Wars”. I lived in Dallas, around ’77 I think. Had a friend who worked at the theatre and was talking about this "space movie". Dallas was a test market. There was NO marketing/advertising. She got me and my roommate in free one afternoon. There were probably 10 people in the theatre. What a mind blower. Couldn’t believe this movie wasn’t packed with people! Didn’t know anything about test markets back then. Second story. I had moved to L.A. My girlfriend’s mom was the secretary for the president of some big company and takes us to see this "test" of a movie that they’re getting people to see and gauge their responses. It was Raiders of the Lost Ark. Another "wow".
That’s it. g’nite.
Tim (Moviehole reporter)

Tim,
First contributor to write into the MailBag. I should really send you a prize, right? Hmm…Ok, “Catwoman” on it’s way too you (the whole reel of film…Warner don’t want it anymore…not the DVD). Enjoy yourself there at SXSW mate!

Clint,
Do you think Michael Jackson will get off?
Hev

I believe he already has – couple of jpegs of chimps in the sack with the Culkins will do it everytime.

Craven for more of Wes?
