Two new bits of music for two new movies – the following blurbs with more… (that’s lazy of us, right!?)
Republic Records, in collaboration with Sony Pictures Entertainment, have announced that they will release the Official Soundtrack Album for ”Spider-Man™: Into the Spider-Verse” on December 14, 2018. The film opens in theaters nationwide the same day.
Multi-platinum, chart-dominating artists Post Malone & Swae Lee are on the first single from the upcoming soundtrack, “Sunflower (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse)”. The single re-teams Post & Swae Lee after the two joined forces for “Spoil My Night” from the year’s biggest multi-platinum album, beerbongs & bentleys [Republic Records].

Sony Pictures Entertainment and Republic Records have teamed up for the first time to create a contemporary musical companion for the upcoming feature film. The two camps worked closely to create a soundtrack in support of the multi-cultural protagonist of the film, Miles Morales. The music from the soundtrack will span multiple genres including Hip Hop, Latin and Pop and look to portray what a teen like Miles is listening to across the country.
From the creative minds behind ”The Lego Movie” and ”21 Jump Street”, Phil Lord & Christopher Miller, comes ”Spider-Man™: Into the Spider-Verse”, a fresh vision of a different Spider-Man Universe, with a groundbreaking visual style that’s the first of its kind. ”Spider-Man™: Into the Spider-Verse” introduces Brooklyn teen Miles Morales, and the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask. Directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman from a screenplay by Phil Lord and Rodney Rothman and story by Phil Lord, the producers are Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, Phil Lord & Christopher Miller and Christina Steinberg.
“Post and Swae have delivered a song that’s both heroic and emotional, which is exactly what a Spider-Man story needs. It’s anthemic, but also heartfelt — the perfect soundtrack for Miles to discover the Spider-Man inside himself,” said Spring Aspers, Head of Music, Creative Affairs Worldwide for Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Motion Picture Group.
Focus Features and Back Lot Music announce the release of “Revelation”, the new original song by Troye Sivan & Jónsi written for the feature film ”Boy Erased”. The soundtrack to the film – featuring an additional original song by Jónsi and score by Danny Bensi & Saunder Jurriaans – will release digitally on 10/26 and physically on 11/2 with the film’s theatrical release in select theaters nationwide. A vinyl component will be issued later this year with Music on Vinyl.
”Boy Erased” tells the courageous story of Jared (played by Lucas Hedges), the son of a Baptist pastor in a small American town, who is outed to his parents (Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe) at age 19. Jared is faced with an ultimatum: attend a conversion therapy program, or be permanently exiled and shunned by his family, friends and faith. Boy Erased is the true story of one young man’s struggle to find himself while being forced to question every aspect of his identity. Sivan also acts alongside Hedges as Gary, a fellow conversion therapy student.
Sivan talked about writing the song for the film during a recent tour stop in New York City, where he performed it live for the first time. “I got together with Jónsi of Sigur Rós and Leland. Joel [Edgerton, writer/director] showed us a scene from the movie, and I don’t want to spoil anything, but it’s this one moment of relief in the film. It’s this one really sweet, tender moment where Jared does something that I would consider pure and beautiful and normal and romantic. He has that experience and the sky doesn’t fall down on him. The world doesn’t come crashing down, and it’s a ‘revelation’ to him. That person that he was with is a revolution to him, and it was just so inspiring. So, we started with these lyrics of ‘you’re a revelation, you’re a revolution’.”
Sivan, who was born in South Africa and raised in Australia, came out to his family at age 14. Unlike the character of Jared, Sivan says “the only thing that saddened my parents was that I hadn’t told them sooner; that I was dealing with this alone.” He has since become one of the world’s most influential online superstars with the biggest social media footprint in Australia, and the fastest growing YouTube channel in the Australia/Asian market to date. He began his career as an actor staring opposite John Cleese in the South African franchise Spud. Sivan was recently hailed as “the Perfect Pop Star for 2018” by TIME, which pronounced his new album, Bloom (Capitol Records), as “a major artistic achievement.” Bloom was awarded four stars by Rolling Stone and has already racked up more than 700 million cumulative streams. Sivan’s numerous awards include a Billboard Music Award, three MTV EMA’s and two GLAAD Media Awards. His 2015 debut album, Blue Neighbourhood, topped the iTunes charts in 66 countries and has sold more than 2.5 million adjusted albums worldwide.
Jón þor (Jónsi) Birgisson is an Icelandic musician, best known as singer of Sigur Rós, a band he co-founded as a teenager 24 years ago. With Sigur Rós he has released seven studio albums, which have taken the band on a journey from willful obscurity to a position as one of the biggest ‘underground’ bands on the planet, building a large and ardent live fanbase all over the world. Sigur Rós’ beautifully atmospheric and often darkly dramatic work continues to defy categorization, attracting a truly broad spectrum of admirers, among them the many filmmakers. For film, Jónsi has previously written end title songs for ”How To Train Your Dragon” 1 & 2, an award-winning score for Cameron Crowe’s ”We Bought A Zoo”, and TV drama ”Manhattan”.
The Anchorman is back on the air!
With the emphasis being ‘on the air’
iHeartMedia annoucned today that Will Ferrell will reprise his ‘Anchorman’ character Ron Burgundy for a new podcast to be heard on the platform. “The Ron Burgundy Podcast” will air early 2019.
Press release follows…
The legendary newscaster Ron Burgundy and iHeartMedia, the No. 1 commercial podcast publisher globally with over 20,000 podcasts available on its iHeartRadio platform—both of whom are kind of a big deal—announced today “The Ron Burgundy Podcast.” The audio series will launch on the iHeartRadio Podcast Network in early 2019 and the iconic anchorman is beside himself with glee to once again grace the world with his presence.
“The Ron Burgundy Podcast” will be co-produced by Funny Or Die and is an iHeartRadio Original podcast. This momentous moment will mark the return of the legendary anchorman himself, Ron Burgundy, who has been delighting fans all over the world since the hit movie Anchorman was released in 2004. Burgundy has signed on for two 12-episode seasons, with season one to launch in the first quarter of 2019 and the second season expected to air mid-2019. Excerpts of the audio series will also be distributed across iHeartRadio broadcast radio stations and via social media channels.
“Listen, I don’t know what a podcast is, but I currently have a lot of time on my hands and a lot to talk about,” said Ron Burgundy, host of “The Ron Burgundy Podcast.” “I am also broke. Therefore, I am very excited to do this podcast. It is literally saving my life.”
“To be honest, we don’t want to do this podcast and we just want to get this announcement over with as soon as possible,” said Conal Byrne, President of the iHeartPodcast Network. “Ron quite literally forced us into making this podcast with him, first calling us more than one hundred times in a single day and then proceeding to actually show up at our doorstep and physically force himself into our studios. We do hope the podcast is well-received, but in the meantime, we hope by agreeing to do the announcement he will stay away.”
Ron is still represented by his long-time agent Buzzy Chanterelle of Let’s Make Magic Entertainment. Let’s Make Magic is a local San Diego agency whose roster includes mostly stunt men, magicians and animal handlers. And let’s not forget Lance Alworth, who he represented for six months, and Chuck Muncie!
“By the way, if iHeartRadio says that I harassed them into making a podcast, it is a lie!! A boldface lie!!” said Burgundy. “Did I call them one hundred times in one day? Yes! But that’s called persistence! I have filed suit against iHeartRadio for these salacious claims. I will be representing myself legally, since I currently do not have enough money to hire an attorney.”
Burgundy will release an official trailer in the coming months on iHeartRadio and everywhere else podcasts are heard.
Dave Grohl to release two-part documentary called Play
Master of music Dave Grohl has announced he is releasing a two-part documentary, which culminates with him performing a solo 23-minute performance on seven different instruments.
The doco, titled “Play”, will be released August 10th, and showcases “the rewards and challenges of dedicating ones life to playing and mastering a musical instrument.”
“Watching my kids start to play music and learn to sing or play drums, it brings me back to the time when I was their age listening to albums, learning from listening… and when I take my kids to the place where they take their lessons, I see these rooms full of children that are really pushing themselves to figure this out,” Grohl said in a statement.
“And even now, as a 49-year-old man, I’m still trying to figure it out… it’s not something that you ever truly master. You’re always chasing the next challenge, and you’re always trying to find a way to improve on what you’ve learned.”
Grohl really proves he can do anything, with the nicest guy in rock and roll created a seven-piece one-man band in the impressive documentary. The first part of the doco focuses on the behind-the-scenes preparation for the performance, which is unveiled in the second part.

Interview : singer/actress Temara Melek
Most people don’t know what to do when they get out of college; for singer/actress Temara Melek, it was a no brainer. At four, she was already singing and on her way to dancing as well. More recently, her song “Karma’s Not Pretty” achieved #8 on the UK MTV Most Watched Video Charts. The song was also in the top 10 in the VIVA online charts and won the Academia Music Award for “Best Pop Song.”
Now 19, the busy singer sat down with Moviehole to talk about the music business and what she’s learned to maintain her momentum, as well as what it was like to open for Demi Lovato.
Moviehole: How did you get started in singing and writing?
Temara Melek: Ever since I was four or younger, I was a fan of “Grease” and I would watch it almost every day — it was one of my favorite movies. My mom saw that I was so interested in it and that I loved it, and I was also dancing as my sister was a dancer. There was a vocal coach at the dance studio and my mom asked if I wanted to take lessons.
Moviehole: How did you break into the music business?
TM: I moved to L.A. when I was 12 and I found a vocal coach out here. At first it was a hobby; I was doing more acting, then I thought I could write a song so I worked with this vocal coach and wrote a song with him. He was in the industry and had worked with other young artists. I recorded it, did a first release (online) and started gaining fans. I was going to a lot of events and had friends in the business, so I continued writing more music and met other songwriters. Jonathan George was my vocal coach. I started writing together with him and found out what my style was, then I kept working with other producers and song writers.
My big release “Karma’s Not Pretty” was a really fun video that came out in 2013. Luckily I was working with people who had been in the industry and they knew how to get onto YouTube and ITunes. I released “Karma’s Not Pretty” on ITunes, the YouTube channel and it was a lyric video. It was made in a fun way. I followed up with a music video and that helped reach a broader audience. I have trained on both sides of my voice, soprano and alto, so I have a pretty wide range.
Moviehole: What are the charity organizations you are working with right now, such as the Ian Somerhalder Foundation?
TM: I have been involved with Ian’s charity and it’s one of my favorite ones. And I’m a huge animal lover and I will continue that. Another organization is UNICEF, I’ve been working with them for seven years — I hold an annual Halloween party with donations with UNICEF.
Moviehole: Why do you think “Karma’s Not Pretty” was so enjoyed by your fans?
TM: It’s a fun song and catchy, also I feel the storyline is one people can relate to. And I think the video was a big hit with the two cute guys, who doesn’t want to watch them? I mean I still watch the video (laughs).
Moviehole: What was it like opening for Demi Lovato?
TM: I opened up for her at the Belasco theatre in L.A., it was definitely one of the most amazing experiences I’ve had. I was a huge fan of hers already, she’s insanely talented and I got to meet and talk with her. People working with us at the time knew her manager, and knew about how they were looking for someone to open up for her.
Moviehole: What about your roles on “Modern Family” and “Westworld”?
TM: “Modern Family” was quite a while ago. “Westworld” was more recent — I was a part of the townspeople and there was a fight scene which was crazy because I never did anything like that! I had to jump into character that was different from anything I’ve ever done.
Moviehole: What about your studies in fashion?
TM: It’s on hold, but I did study at the Fashion Institute in DTLA. I would like to do something in fashion someday, do my own line — I’m very much into fashion. I think it’s a good thing it goes well with singing. My favorite fashion designer is Victoria Beckham.
Moviehole: What do you advise to newbies in singing about breaking in?
TM: My advice is just to keep going. There’s a lot of letdowns so take any opportunity that you can. Just write your own stuff, try to find other songwriters to collaborate with to get more opportunities, and you can release on SoundCloud if you don’t have a manager.
Moviehole: It’s hard to break into the music industry, what helped you to succeed?
TM: The biggest challenges take a lot of hard work and a lot of experience. It might take years — I’ve been doing it for quite a while and I’m never giving up, I keep going at it.
Moviehole: How do you get inspiration for writing?
TM: Either from personal experience or a story that other people told me or a made-up topic that I’m writing with someone. It’s important to have a song be relatable.
Moviehole: When does your main album get released?
TM: Right now I’ve been working at a studio, writing and recording on a single release in a few months, and hopefully there will be an EP by the end of the year.
