Naked Gun 4 going Direct to DVD?

I remember asking “Naked Gun” director David Zucker, a few years back, whether or not he’d be interesting in dusting off Lt. Frank Drebin for a fourth film. He was dead keen. Crazy-as-a-fox keen. Thing is, he said Paramount weren’t as keen. They just didn’t envision it being a success.

Interestingly enough, Paramount have just greenlit a “Naked Gun 4” – only it’s going direct-to-DVD (oh, how convenient). The studio has set up a new DTV-sequel label – much like the WB’s Warner Premiere – titled Paramount Famous and plan to milk the bejesus out of all the old properties… like “Gun”. There’s no word on whether Leslie Nielsen will reprise his role as Drebin, but I can’t imagine they’d do it without him – and Nielsen’s definitely not fussy; he won’t give two hoots whether it’s for the small screen – or would they? And is Zucker even involved?

Also in the works at ‘Paramount Famous’ are sequels to – oh shit!?! – “Grease”, “The Bad News Bears”, “Mean Girls” and “Road Trip”. All bound to be bonafide doozies.

The label’s first release is the previously announced “Without a Paddle : Nature’s Calling”, which hits stores early next year.
