A reboot of urban thriller “New Jack City” (1991) is in the works at Warner Bros.
The original film, based upon an original story and screenplay by Thomas Lee Wright and Barry Michael Cooper, and directed by Mario Van Peebles, starred Wesley Snipes as a big-time drug tycoon. Van Peebles, Ice T and Judd Nelson also starred.
Malcolm D.Mays, who like Van Peebles is an actor and filmmaker, is writing. Bill Gerber (“A Star is Born”) is producing along with the pic’s original producer Doug McHenry.
