Paul Reiser Show axed after only two episodes!

After only two episodes, NBC has canceled “The Paul Reiser Show”.

The sitcom, in which the former “Mad About You” star plays an exaggerated version of himself (a’la Larry David/”Curb Your Enthusiasm”), bombed first night out of the gate (The premiere ranked as NBC’s lowest-rated in-season comedy series premiere ever) and it’s second episode didn’t do much better. NBC confirm that the show will be rested.

Having seen the pilot, I’ll say I’m not surprised the show didn’t last – it’s a watered-down version of “Curb” with jokes fit for free-to-air television – but it is a pity Reiser’s return to Television was so short lived because I genuinely liked the guy and have since the days of “Diner” and, of course, “Aliens”.

NBC will air old episodes of “The Office” in the “Reiser” slot.

And Paul, hey! I’ve an idea! Helen Hunt isn’t up to much, and John Pankow and Richard Kind are still about, why not resurrect “Mad About You”? Instead of baby jokes and newlywed gags you can douse the audience in jokes about going senile, leakage and being ‘out of touch’ with today’s youth!
