Peter Jackson approached about Hillary film?

According to today’s Herald Sun, Peter Hillary told a Sydney journalist yesterday that he has approached Director Peter Jackson about doing a film based on his father Sir Edmund Hillary’s historic 1953 climb.

"I went along and spoke to Peter Jackson to talk about a biographical feature film about Dad basically climbing Mt Everest," Mr Hillary said. "It was at the time he (Jackson) was starting the Lord of the Rings and he said he had rather a lot on his plate at the time but he thought he might look at it at some other stage."

According to Stuff, A spokesperson for Jackson says a meeting may have taken place between Jackson and Hillary, but the "Lord of the Rings" director isn’t planning on doing a film.

"He’s making a mountain out of a very small molehill," the spokesman told the Dominion Post. Adding that Jackson is "in no way affiliated" with a film about Sir Edmund’s ascent of Mt Everest.

"I’m not sure what they’ve got in the pipeline after King Kong, but it’s not an Edmund Hillary movie."

New Zealand writer Tom Scott has already written the screenplay for the film, the Australian Associated Press reported.

Sounds like Hillary’s gunning for a film based on his father – but someone’s passed on it.
