Former “Buffy, the Vampire Slayer” stars Anthony (Stewart) Head and Eliza Dushku are – like their former leading lady, Sarah Michelle Gellar – headed back to the box. Head has joined the cast of “Free Agents“, reprising his role from the BBC series of which the Yankee series is based upon, while Dushku is onboard CBS’ untitled sports comedy project, joining Damon Wayans. Wayans and Dushku play radio hosts in the sitcom.
Roadshow films will no longer be releasing director Patrick Lussier’s “Drive Angry 3D” starring Nicolas Cage and Amber Heard theatrically. The film, which regrettably tanked at the U.S box office, will instead premiere downunder on DVD and Blu-ray. So long as it gets seen, I guess….
Terrence Malick’s hugely anticipated “Tree of Life“, starring Brad Pitt, will bow at the Cannes Film Festival. The flick, due for release in France May 18, will run May 11-22 at Cannes.
The Katherine Heigl action/comedy “One for the Money” – featuring the “Life as We Know It” and “Killers” star as a bounty hunter – has been pushed back from July to January 27, 2012. Such a loss…
“Scream 4” heroine Emma Roberts will star in director Scott Coffey’s “Adult World“, a coming-of-age comedy about an over-validated generation of American kids who think they’re all special and have a right to fame only now they face the reality of real life. Ed Harris (“The Rock”, “The Abyss”) will play Senator John McCain in “Game Change“, actor cum writer Danny Strong’s chronicle of the 2008 presidential campaign. Harris joins Julianne Moore, playing Sarah Palin, in the Jay Roach directed telemovie. (More…)

Starz has announced a July 8 bow for “Torchwood : Mother’s Day“, a U.S continuation of the UK series. Joining the regular cast are big-time yankee actors Bill Pullman (“Independence Day”), Mekhi Phifer (“8 Mile”) and Lauren Ambrose (“Six Feet Under”).
Kenan Thompson will star in the Lorne Michaels produced “Party Starters“, a Paramount comedy about “that sort of entertainer guy who gets the old people up to dance at weddings and keeps the party rolling”. “SNL” writer Bryan Tucker wrote the script. (More…)
Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain have given up their positions as executive producers of “Secret Circle“, the bewitching new CW series from Kevin Williamson. “Realizing that with Williamson on board, they were no longer needed as showrunners, Fain and Craft opted to move on and focus on development under their deal at WBTV in what was described as an amicable departure”.. Warner Bros has scheduled Adam Shankman’s rock/comedy “Rock of Ages“, starring Tom Cruise and Alec Baldwin, for June 1, 2012; the shingle has also slotted Bryan Singer’s “Jack the Giant Killer” into the 2012 calendar – it’s out June 15, 2012.
Twentieth Century Fox is moving “Rise of the Apes” from Thanksgiving to August 5th (My birthday – Clint). This is, of course, the hugely anticipated (at least in our circle, big “Apes” fans here) “POTA” prequel starring James Franco and John Lithgow.
Benicio Del Toro is in talks to join the cast of Oliver Stone’s “Savages“, the story of Californian dope dealers that Taylor Kitsch and Aaron Johnson were cast in recently. Del Toro will play a drug enforcer. (More…)
Those in New York this week were treated to sneak peeks of several Paramount releases including “Super 8” (the first 20 minutes of the film, in fact), “Footloose”, “Mission : Impossible – Ghost Protocol” and “Kung-Fu Panda 2”. All clips were met with a favourable response, particularly “Super 8”.
Connie Nielsen (“Gladiator”) will star opposite Kelsey Grammer in the series “Boss”. “directed by Gus Van Sant, Grammer stars as Kane, the Mayor of Chicago who is diagnosed with a degenerative mental condition that only he and his doctor know about. Nielsen will play his immaculately groomed wife Meredith who is a pro with the press and tough when she needs to be.” (More…)
