“Fringe”, a show that many didn’t expect to return, has been granted a fifth and final season. The season will run 13 episodes.
Colin Farrell, soon to be seen in the remake of “Total Recall”, is in talks to star in writer turned director Akiva Goldman’s “Winter’s Tale”. Based on the 1983 novel, the film stars Jessica Brown Findlay, Russell Crowe and Will Smith.
“The Queen” star Michael Sheen is joining Tina Fey and Paul Rudd in the new comedy “Admission”. Sheen will play Fey’s boyfriend.
Though the stage work will be done in Australia, the location work for “The Wolverine” will indeed be done in Japan.
Ex-“Spider-Man” baddie Willem Dafoe is doing “Out of the Furnace”, the new Scott Cooper film starring Christian Bale, Casey Affleck and Forest Whitaker. Described as a gripping and gritty dramatic thriller about fate, circumstance, and justice. Russell (Bale) and his younger brother Rodney (Affleck) live in the economically-depressed Rust Belt, and have always dreamed of escaping and finding better lives. But when a cruel twist of fate lands Russell in prison, his brother is lured into one of the most violent and ruthless crime rings in the Northeast – a mistake that will almost cost him everything. Once released, Russell must choose between his own freedom, or risk it all to seek justice for his brother.
Brian Geraghty (“The Hurt Locker”) will play a man (Geraghty) who is determined to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro after a recent breakup in director Walter Strafford’s “Kilimanjaro”.
“Hangover” director Todd Phillips is set to team with Mark and Jay Duplass to adapt Tony D’Souza’s “Mule: A Novel of Moving Weight”.
Josh Gad (“Love and Other Drugs”) is in talks to play Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak in the Steve Jobs biopic “Jobs”, in which Ashton Kutcher has the lead role.
Vera Farmiga (“Up in the Air”) and Andy Garcia (“Ocean’s Thirteen”) will star in the indie romantic comedy “Admissions”, which “sees Farmiga as a free-spirited mom taking her driven daughter on a walking tour of a beautiful small college. Garcia plays a buttoned-up heart surgeon who’s taking his son on the same tour. With the parents failing to connect with their respective children, they head off on their own, with a surprise romance blossoming.”
Fox’s CinemaCon presentation was a success. In addition to previewing “The Life of Pi” and “Taken 2”, among others, the studio confirmed a sequel to “Rise of the Apes”.

“Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” star Rooney Mara will front “Brooklyn”, an adaptation of the Colm Tóibín novel that’s set in Ireland and New York in the ’50s.

Dimension Films announced today that they have acquired U.S. distribution rights to the supernatural thriller DARK SKIES, written and directed by Scott Stewart (PRIEST, LEGION). Jason Blum will produce through his Blumhouse Productions (INSIDIOUS, PARANORMAL ACTIVITY) alongside Alliance Films who will fully finance the picture. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Alliance Films’ Charles Layton will executive produce. Alliance Films will distribute in Canada, in the UK (via its Momentum Pictures subsidiary) and in Spain (via Aurum).
Octane, IM Global’s genre label, will launch international sales in Cannes.“Jason has done a masterful job over the past several years of breaking new ground and creating huge commercial successes in the supernatural and horror genres,” said Bob Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Company. “We are confident that Dark Skies will continue that success.”
The film is scheduled to go into production this summer with the logline currently being kept under wraps.
