Strategic Film Partners has acquired international sales rights to the feature film ”Crooked Arrows” starring Brandon Routh (”Superman Returns”). The film, which depicts the story of an underdog American lacrosse team, was directed by Steve Rash (The Buddy Holly Story, Bring It On 3 & 4) and opens in limited engagements in the U.S. on May 18th, expanding with a wider national and Canadian release on June 1st. The timing of the release is significant as global interest in the sport is at an all time high due to the upcoming 2012 World Championships of the Federation of International Lacrosse in July in Finland. “Crooked Arrows” is the first mainstream lacrosse movie. It pays homage to the fast growing sport’s history by featuring a Native American high school team as the heroic underdogs, who rediscover their spirit when paired with a reluctant coach (Routh). Routh plays the mixed blood son of the nation’s chairman who has returned to his reservation to expand the community’s fledgling casino, but his traditionalist father and the tribal council insist that he must first re-examine his spirit before he can undertake his enterprise. Together with his skeptical team, he leads them on an unlikely journey to the New York prep league championship game.
The trailer for “5 Souls”, a supernatural thriller from director Brett Donowho and starring Kristina Anapau (“True Blood”) and Samaire Armstrong (“Entourage”), has slithered its way online via Dread Central.

Cross Creek Pictures will produce and finance “The Creed of Violence”, to be written and directed by three-time Academy Award® nominated writer and director Todd Field (“Little Children”).
Cross Creek’s Academy Award® nominated producer Brian Oliver will produce along with Field and two-time Academy Award® nominated producer Michael DeLuca. The production is targeting an early 2013 start date to shoot in both the American Southwest and parts of Mexico. The movie will be distributed by Universal Pictures through their deal with Cross Creek. “The Creed of Violence” is the fifth novel by Boston Teran, the secretive writer who penned the cult-favorite tome “God Is a Bullet.” The story portrays the 1910 Mexican revolution via the gun sights of an unlikely duo: Rawbone, a hardened small-time assassin, and John Lourdes, a young Bureau of Investigation agent. The two are forced to work together to infiltrate the Mexican criminal underground, encountering a snake’s nest of thieves, smugglers and professional killers. “The book and Todd’s adaptation remind me of Conrad’s “Heart of Darkness,” said Oliver. “Teran’s novel brings a unique perspective to U.S. imperialism for oil in the early 20th century. We are confident that Todd’s skill for deeply felt, emotionally resonant characters combined with this action-packed story will make for an epic, influential film.”
There’s a new trailer for The CW’s “Green Arrow”, starring Stephen Amell, up. After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira, much-beloved sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. While Oliver hides the truth about the man he’s become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he was. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. By day, Oliver plays the role of a wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be – flanked by his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle – while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness. However, Laurel’s father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. Meanwhile, Oliver’s own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on – and is more ruthless than he could ever imagine.

“Hunger Games” star Elizabeth Banks will topline dark comedy “What’s the Matter With Margie?” with filming set to start early next year in Los Angeles. Daniel Minahan will direct from Alan Ball’s original screenplay about “a downtrodden office-worker who finally snaps and resorts to murder as a solution to her problems.” (Variety)
Cate Blanchett and Mia Wasikowska are doing a new version of Patricia Highsmith’s “Carol”, the story of “two very different women in 1950s New York. One, a girl in her 20s working in a department store who dreams of a more fulfilling life, and the other, a wife trapped in a loveless, moneyed marriage.” John Crowley directs. (Deadline)
Mickey Rourke is joining Nicolas Cage for Stealth Media Group’s “Marble City”. Ryuhei Kitamura’s flick takes us on a journey of a newly released prisoner who seeks revenge on those that put him inside. It is the story of a man who finds his inner peace through vengeance.
As Moviehole exclusively reported a couple of months back, Robin Williams is set for “The Angriest Man in Brooklyn”, the story of “a stand-in doctor who mistakenly tells an obnoxious patient he has 90 minutes to live. The medic tries desperately to locate the man after her comments sends him on a contrite tour of the city to right all the wrongs in his life.” Mila Kunis, Peter Dinklage, Melissa Leo and James Earl Jones have also been cast in the Phil Alden Robinson (“Field of Dreams”) directed picture. “jOBS”, the Steve Jobs biopic starring Ashton Kutcher, will get underway in June. Joshua Michael Stern’s movie will shed new light on Steve Jobs’ most defining and personal moments, motivations, and the people that drove him. The film covers Jobs from his early years as an impressionable youth and wayward hippie, through his initial successes and infamous ousting, to his storybook return and ultimate triumphs as a man who set out to change the world and did just that. The first images and poster for “Emperor”, an epic story of love and understanding set amidst the tensions and uncertainties of the days immediately following the Japanese surrender at the end of World War II, are online. The film stars Tommy Lee Jones as General Douglas MacArthur, the de facto ruler of Japan as Supreme Commander of the occupying forces, and Matthew Fox as General Bonner Fellers, who is charged with reaching a decision of historical importance: should Emperor Hirohito be tried and hanged as a war criminal?
