THE RITE STUFF

YEAR 12 BEGINS

Fredrik Bond will direct “Year 12”, a science-fictioner set twelve years after aliens first arrived on Earth. The Wrap says the plot involves “an underwater uranium miner who is recruited by the human resistance to smuggle uranium in his blood so they can use it to blow up the alien mothership.”

BLADE DOES A RUNNER

That Wesley Snipes zombie western “Gallowalker” needs someone to fill in for Snipes – who, as we all know, is pre-occupied with other matters – who is unavailable to record voice-over or narration for the film (More…)

AVATAR JUST PADDLING

“Avatar” Producer Jon Landau has addressed some of the rumours floating around pertaining to the plot of the former’s upcoming sequel. For starters, the whole movie won’t be set underwater, as previously reported. “Water will be a part of the movie, but it won’t be all of the movie … There’s been a lot of rumours that it’s an underwater movie – it’s not. Just like the Floating Mountains, and the Na’vi’s interaction with the mountains, were a part of Avatar, it’ll be the same type of thing.” (More…)

YOUNGBLOOD STILL TAINTED

Brett Ratner says the film adaptation of “Youngblood” (I got excited for a minute… thought Ratner was remaking the Rob Lowe/Cynthia Gibb hockey movie!), which he signed on to develop and consequently direct in 2009, is still on the cards. Said the Rat, ”There were some rights issues. We actually waited for over a year for the rights to these comic books that were made by independent comic books. There was a lot of owners of these comic books and a lot of people were claiming they had the rights. It’s taken a long time but I think we’ve finally cleared the legal part of it.” (More…)

BUTLER EXPERIENCES AFTERBURN

Antoine Fuqua (“Training Day”) and Gerard Butler are set to team up on Red 5 Comics’ mini-series “Afterburn”, written by Scott Chitwood (congrats Scott!) and Paul Ens. Meantime, Showbiz Spy reports that Butler has gone cold on the idea of doing the “300” prequel – but not necessarily because he isn’t attracted to the idea of the film.

J.R AND BOBBY RETURN TO “DALLAS”

Patrick Duffy and Larry Hagman are in talks to join the cast of “Dallas” reboot. “I read the script and liked it,” says Hagman, in an interview with TV Guide. “A lot of it is exposition to explain what’s happened since we went off in the ’90s. Miss Ellie’s passed on and such. But they haven’t made a firm offer yet. We’re kicking ideas around, but nothing’s been struck in gold. We’ll see how it goes; I’m still ambivalent about it.” Duffy says. “I read the script and was extremely impressed with it. I’d managed to read the scripts for the feature films Fox was planning a few years ago and they were atrocious. Just awful, so I didn’t know what to expect from TNT. But this read like one of the better episodes at the height of Dallas. It’s a perfect sequel to continuing the Dallas tradition.”

RED HILL COMING TO BLU RAY

Sony Pictures in the U.S has announced that “Red Hill”, starring Ryan Kwanten and Steve Bisley, will be available to own on DVD and Blu-ray on January 25.

RATNER ADVISING ON SUPERMAN

Don’t fret, just because he’s talking doesn’t mean anyone’s listening. Brett Ratner, at one time attached to direct “Superman Returns”, tells MTV “It’s hard to make a guy in tights with a cape relevant right now. It needs an interpretation…It needs a contemporary, visionary guy who can really take something and reinvent it for a contemporary audience and make it relevant.” (More…)

CLASSIC TRAILER OF THE WEEK :

Psycho II (1983)
“It’s 22 years later…. and Norman Bates is coming home”. How exciting was this trailer!? And better still, how great was the movie!? Truly a much better sequel than anyone could have imagined, director Richard Franklin’s sequel to the classic Alfred Hitchcock flick was suspenseful, magnificently-performed and perfectly plotted.
